I have to say that seeing #Somaliland front and center on the world stage has been such an antidote to all the toxicity in this world I started learning about #Somaliland years ago, about its history under British rule and its short-lived independence in 1960. About Siad Barre's criminal war of aggression and extermination against the Issaq people. And how the world — well, most of the world — looked away, unwilling to go against the Arab League's powerful bloc at the UN Seeing the joy of so many Somalilanders that their country is now on the map, as it were, has been an incredible experience
Today, a new chapter in history has been written. I extend my deepest gratitude and sincere appreciation to the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu @netanyahu the Government of Israel, and the people of Israel for becoming the first nation in thirty-five years to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign and independent state, affirming its nationhood, independence, and inherent right to self-determination. This courageous and historic decision stands as a testament to the resilience, political maturity, and unwavering aspirations of the people of Somaliland. For more than three decades, our nation has remained steadfast in its commitment to peace, democracy, stability, and the democratic expression of the will of its people. Somaliland will never forget this historic gesture of friendship, mutual respect, and principled recognition. We firmly believe that Somaliland and Israel will build a deep and enduring partnership founded on mutual respect, security, innovation, development, and a shared commitment to advancing the prosperity and well-being of our peoples. I am also pleased to announce that the Republic of Somaliland and the State of Israel have formally signed a Strategic Joint Declaration of Cooperation, marking a historic milestone in relations between our two nations. This landmark agreement establishes the foundation for a lasting strategic partnership and deepens cooperation in the fields of agriculture, water management, security, technology, investment, economic development, and infrastructure. This achievement represents a defining moment in Somaliland’s national journey and a significant milestone for its people. It will leave an enduring mark on our history and usher in a new era of partnership, opportunity, and international engagement. Somaliland has prevailed.

#Somaliland ⚖️👇
There was never a new nation created called the “Somali republic” in 1960 The republic of Somalia the former UN trusteeship simply illegally annexed Somaliland sovereign territory without any legal valid instruments or the consent of it’s inhabitants The republic of Somalia applied to join the United Nations since legally no “Somali republic” existed

JERUSALEM — Far from remaining in the shadows, the First Lady of #Somaliland is actively leading key moments of her country’s first official state visit to #Israel. Accompanying President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, First Lady Fardowsa Mohamed Roble toured Jerusalem’s Shalva National Center for the Treatment and Integration of People with Disabilities. The visit formed part of the landmark delegation following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland in December 2025. During the guided tour, the First Lady voiced a clear personal commitment: “My aspiration is to establish such a center in our country.” Shalva, Israel’s largest and most advanced disability care facility, provides integrated services from early intervention and therapy to education and vocational training for thousands of people with disabilities and their families. By publicly outlining this vision, the First Lady positioned herself as a driving force on social inclusion during the high-level trip. Her engagement added a strong human dimension to discussions on bilateral cooperation in security, trade, technology, and development. The statement underscores that she is not simply accompanying the president but helping shape priorities for Somaliland’s future. Observers see her proactive role at Shalva as a signal that disability rights and inclusive policies will feature in the growing partnership between the two nations.

Somalilanders have been delighted to see their flag flying proudly in Jerusalem. We are particularly touched by the respect Israelis have shown to our national flag, which bears the Shahada, the most sacred declaration in Islam. It is a striking irony that while Muslim governments have disrespected, ignored, or refused to acknowledge this flag, Israelis have treated it with dignity and respect. Actions, after all, speak louder than rhetoric.

🟩✴️🟥 🇮🇱This is excellent, truly inspiring and I feel it not just as an American Zionist but as a friend and believer in the Somaliland project (for recognition). If you have the best systems, and high IQ, religious nonsense can't get in the way of success, flourishing and gentle commerce. Onwards winners!
🎉Mazel Tov! / Hambalyo!/Congratulations! The Republic of Somaliland has officially opened its first-ever embassy in Jerusalem.🇮🇱

Interesting perspective ⬇️
Somaliland was an independent state in 1960. It joined a union to become Somalia. It chose to leave. Not like the Kurds at all. Think Czechoslovakia. Somaliland had to endure hyper-centralized terror of Siad Barre. Dictators ruling hyper-centralized regimes are often terrified that devolving power to regions or minorities will lead to secessionism, disintegration, and state collapse. The lesson from Somaliland is the opposite: what produces exit politics is when dictators double down on repression and hypercentralization. That should be a warning to Syria. To Ethiopia. To Yemen. To Somalia. To Afghanistan. These vicious cycles of state failure are not caused by autonomy. They are caused by brutal rulers who refuse to share power or reform. Somaliland was fortunate to find an exit strategy from life inside a failed state that had refused to reform.

Israel's recognition of Somaliland, like its support for Kurdish movements in Iraq and elsewhere, puts up alarm signals in all capitals in the region, showing it as a unilateralist, irresponsible actor which will advocate secessionism.
