No están locos, están usando un dopamine website. ¿Qué son? Sitios de un solo propósito, hechos para darte un estímulo, un golpe rápido de dopamina, novedad o calma. Nada más y nada menos. No te quieren vender nada, no te piden tu correo, no te trackean hasta el más allá (odiamos las cookies). Stimulation Clicker, Infinite Craft, "Gástate el dinero de Bill Gates", el problema del tranvía absurdo. Experimentos minúsculos que te absorben sin esfuerzo. Es el internet de los noventa que muchos extrañábamos, cuando la gente construía cosas solo porque sí. El sabor consuelo. En Corea explotó la moda de apps de comida falsas y de salir a fumar en línea: sitios donde ves quién más está conectado a esa hora y dejas un mensaje tipo "ya casi acabo el día". No hay comida ni cigarros, solo la sensación de no estar solo. Un profesor coreano lo resumió bien: en una era de burnout e incertidumbre, la gente encuentra alivio en sentirse fácilmente conectada, sin la carga de una relación real. Todo tiene una parte incómoda. La dopamina no es placer, es anticipación, es la química de "algo bueno está por pasar". Es la misma palanca que mueve el scroll infinito de TikTok o Instagram, el autoplay de YouTube, la notificación que nunca pediste, la misma química, pero con una intención opuesta... En un feed donde todo se ve igual y cada vez más se ve generado por IA, un pequeño golpe de dopamina honesto es lo único que corta el ruido. Lo inútil se volvió el canal de crecimiento más útil que existe, justo porque no se siente como crecimiento. Los productos que van a ganar la siguiente década no van a optimizar por cuánto tiempo te quedas. Van a optimizar por cómo te sientes cuando cierras la pestaña. ¿Qué veremos hacia el futuro? (según mi apreciación) La IA acaba de tirar a cero el costo de construir estas cosas. Nos vamos a ahogar en micro-experiencias. El piso técnico desaparece (aparentemente) y lo escaso deja de ser saber programar. Lo escaso pasa a ser tener gusto, ese taste que hace la diferencia (y sí se entrena) y tener algo humano que valga la pena construir. Tendremos más websites hechos para que respires, te reinicies, te sientas un poco menos solo. El internet pasó diez años optimizando para robarte la atención. The reason is quite hilarious 😂😂. Microsoft put $50 billion into Anthropic. FIFTY billion dollars. they are a Project Glasswing partner. Fable 5 runs inside Azure. Microsoft sells Claude to its own enterprise customers through Microsoft 365 and GitHub Copilot. and they won't let their own employees use it. here's why. under Anthropic's new Mythos-class data retention policy, every prompt you type and every response you get is stored for 30 days. automatically. no opt out. if their safety classifiers flag anything in your session, anything, they keep it for up to two years. you don't get told when that happens, what was flagged or who can see it. Microsoft employees paste confidential contracts into these things. customer data. internal roadmaps. acquisition strategies. legal documents. source code. all of it sitting on Anthropic's servers for 30 days minimum. flagged sessions for two years. so the company that invested $50 billion looked at that policy and told its staff: actually hold on. other Claude models still work internally. under Zero Data Retention rules. the normal ones are fine. just not the most powerful one they helped fund. and one more thing. the Pentagon listed Anthropic as a supply chain risk in March and banned defense contractors from using its products. Microsoft funds Anthropic. sells Anthropic's models. runs them on Azure. helped build the most powerful one. won't let employees use it. the Pentagon won't let defense contractors near it. the safeguard that makes Fable 5 safe enough to release publicly is the same safeguard that lets Anthropic keep your data for two years. the guardrail is a data retention policy. but you can use it. it's in your browser right now. 🌚 have fun.

The government said the Online Safety Act was about protecting children. We were called conspiracy theorists for saying it wasn’t! Well er … Ofcom is writing to platforms about “crisis situations”, civil unrest and enhanced moderation measures. (Blocking posts they don’t like) Children aren’t mentioned once. NOT ONCE. The problem isn’t removing genuine incitement to violence. The real problem is that unelected regulators will pressure platforms to decide what millions of ADULTS can and cannot see whenever a “crisis” is declared. many platforms will remove perfectly lawful content rather than risk the punishment of Ofcom. ‼️ Google is about to disable all adblocker extensions in Chrome. Instead of letting the adblocker inspect traffic itself, extensions now have to hand Google's browser a limited list of filtering rules and hope for the best. This leads to weaker blocking and more ads getting through. Google makes the vast majority of its money selling ads. The company that profits from every ad you see also controls the browser most people use, with Chrome 149 being the last version supporting adblockers. For example, under the new rules, uBlock Origin cannot exist. For millions of people, that extension is the only thing standing between them and a wall of ads, trackers, and autoplay garbage. One user put it bluntly: "The web is literally unusable without uBlock Origin."

Apple and Google are gradually expanding their use of hardware-based attestation. They're convincing a growing number of services to adopt it. Google's Play Integrity API and Apple's App Attest API are very similar. Apple brought it to the web via Privacy Pass, which Google intends on doing too. Google's Play Integrity API requires hardware attestation for the strong integrity level and is gradually phasing in requiring it for the more commonly used device integrity level. Apple already has it as a requirement. Over the long term, this will increasingly lock out hardware and OS competition. The purpose of these systems is disallowing people from using hardware and software not approved by Apple or Google. This is wrongly presented as being a security feature. Banks and government services are the main ones adopting it but Apple and Google are encouraging every service to use it. Apple's Privacy Pass brought hardware attestation to the web to help with passing captchas on their own hardware. Many people saw that as harmless since few sites would be willing to lock out non-Apple-hardware users. Apple and Google are both likely to bring broader hardware attestation to the web. Google's reCAPTCHA is planning an approach where they use Privacy Pass on Apple hardware, their own approach on Google Mobile Services Android devices and a QR code scanning system to require an iOS or Google certified Android device for Windows and other systems: support.google.com/recaptcha… Banking and government services increasingly require using a mobile app where they can use attestation to force using an Apple or Google approved device and OS. Apple's privacy pass, Google's 'cancelled' Web Environment Integrity and now reCAPTCHA Mobile Verification are bringing this to the web. Current media coverage for reCAPTCHA Mobile Verification misunderstands it and the impact of it. They're bringing a hardware attestation requirement to Windows, desktop Linux, OpenBSD, etc. by requiring a QR scan from a certified smartphone to pass reCAPTCHA in some cases. They could expand it more. Control over reCAPTCHA puts Google in a position where they can require having either iOS or a certified Android device to use an enormous amount of the web. Google defines certification requirements for Android which includes forcing bundling Google Chrome, etc. It's enormously anti-competitive. Google's Play Integrity API bans using GrapheneOS despite it being far more secure than anything they permit. It also bans using any other alternative. This isn't somehow specific to an AOSP-based OS. You can't avoid this by using a mobile OS based on FreeBSD instead. You'll just be more locked out. Google's Play Integrity API permits devices with no security patches for 10 years. The device integrity level can be bypassed via spoofing but they can detect it quite well and block it once it starts being done at scale. The strong integrity level requires leaked keys from TEEs/SEs to bypass it. It doesn't provide a useful security feature, but it does lock out competition very well. Services requiring Apple App Attest or Google Play Integrity are primarily helping to lock in Apple and Google having a duopoly for mobile devices. Play Integrity is more relevant due to AOSP being open source. Governments are increasingly mandating using Apple's App Attest and Google's Play Integrity for not only their own services but also commercial services. The EU is leading the charge of making these requirements for digital payments, ID, age verification, etc. Many EU government apps require them. Instead of governments stopping Apple and Google from engaging in egregiously anti-competitive behavior, they're directly participating in locking out competition via their own services. Requiring people to have an Apple device or Google-certified Android device is anti-competition, not security. reCAPTCHA Mobile Verification will currently work with sandboxed Google Play on GrapheneOS but it clearly exists to provide a way for them to start using hardware attestation on systems without it. People without an iOS or Android device will be locked out when this is required even without that. This isn't about security or any missing functionality. GrapheneOS can be verified via hardware attestation. Google bans using GrapheneOS for Play Integrity because we don't license Google Mobile Services and conform to anti-competitive rules already found to be illegal in South Korea and elsewhere. Services shouldn't ban people from using arbitrary hardware and operating systems in the first place. Google's security excuse is clearly bogus when they permit devices with no patches for 10 years but not a much more secure OS. It's for enforcing their monopolies via GMS licensing, that's all.

‼️ Apple is allegedly building a feature that lets carriers block apps on your iPhone in iOS 27 if you miss a payment. The string reads: "If your balance isn't paid in full by the time specified in the contract, [carrier] may block access to most of your apps and their associated subscriptions on this iPhone. You'll still be able to use [some apps] and these apps." The carrier name slots into a placeholder, and a short list of apps would stay usable. Aaron notes the meaning is still unclear. Signal is 100% right. The greatest trick governments ever pulled was convincing people that freedom and privacy are obstacles to safety. What we are witnessing is not child protection. It is the construction of a surveillance architecture that will eventually monitor, profile, categorize and control every aspect of our digital lives. Today it is age verification and content scanning, tomorrow it is digital identity, then financial monitoring, then behavioural scoring, then access to services conditioned on compliance. The destination is not difficult to see. It is a technocratic system where every interaction is tracked, every transaction recorded, every opinion assessed and every citizen reduced to a data profile managed by governments and corporations working hand in hand. A form of digital neo feudalism where a small unelected class controls the platforms, the infrastructure, the money and ultimately the boundaries of acceptable behaviour. The argument that only criminals should fear surveillance is as absurd as saying only criminals need freedom of speech. Privacy is not evidence of wrongdoing, it is the foundation of human dignity, individual sovereignty and genuine liberty. The UK government is asking citizens to accept the presumption of guilt simply to communicate online. To prove who they are, verify their age and allow their devices to inspect their content before they can participate in modern society. History teaches us that every power granted to the state eventually expands beyond its initial mandate. The technology introduced to detect one form of content today will be used to police entirely different forms of expression tomorrow. The choice before us is not between privacy and child protection, it is between preserving a free society, or constructing the infrastructure of a digital prison that will further enslave us.
