The innovation integrates independently controlled cartridge heaters, PID-based temperature regulation, microprocessor-driven automation, and real-time thermal monitoring to enable precise assessment of liquid cold plates under realistic conditions. Conducted in collaboration with researchers from Marwadi University, India, the study addresses a critical challenge in geotechnical engineeringโ€”the accurate prediction of expansive soil behaviour. These soils swell when exposed to moisture and shrink upon drying, often causing severe damage to buildings, roads, and other infrastructure. Using an extensive database of geotechnical properties, the research evaluated Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), Ridge Regression, and the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) model to predict soil swelling potential. The findings revealed that LASSO achieved the highest predictive accuracy (Rยฒ = 0.935), outperforming conventional approaches through its ability to identify the most influential soil parameters while reducing the impact of irrelevant variables. The Central Research Facility (CRF-IS), Office of the Dean Research, SRM University-AP, Amaravati, successfully organised a One-Day Hands-on Workshop on BET Surface Area Analysis using the Anton Paar Autosorb 6300, bringing together nearly 70 participants from academia, research organisations, and industry. The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Dr Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay, Coordinator โ€“ CRF-IS, and Mr B. Arun Kumar, Technical Officer, CRF-IS, who highlighted the importance of advanced material characterisation techniques and the state-of-the-art research infrastructure available at the University.
