Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in Europe. 🫀 The @EU_Commission’s Cardiovascular Health Plan, or Safe Hearts Plan, acknowledges the importance of healthy diets in the prevention of CVDs. 🥗 Sadly, some key elements are left unattended in this proposal, such as the negative health impact of ultra-processed foods (UPFs), which is not fully developed, with insufficient legal tools to produce meaningful change in the EU. 🍔⚖️ We call for EU-wide marketing restrictions for UPFs, especially regarding children, and for fiscal measures targeting these unhealthy foods. 📢 Promoting healthy diets is the best investment!

For the second day, we are attending the @EFSA_EU 35th Emerging Risk Stakeholder Group, in Granada, where we are making the case to stop the European Commission’s plans to deregulate fertilisers from animal and plant effluents. 🐄🥬

We are delighted to see our partner @eeke_gr continuing to deliver engaging and successful food education sessions in schools across Greece as part of our Food4Inclusion project. 🍎 Pupils at the 23rd Primary School of Patras, the 1st Experimental Middle School of Karditsa, and the 1st High School of Veroia took part in interactive learning on how to make healthier food choices, avoid common food marketing traps, and recognise the importance of exercise for physical and mental wellbeing. 🥗 🧠 #Food4Inclusion #foodliteracy @EU_Commission @EU_Social

In the context of the upcoming study on the health impacts of ultra-processed foods (UPFs), commissioned by DG SANTE of the European Commission, we support the #NOVA classification and call for maximum transparency, without interference from the food industry.

🌱 Last week, the Vegan Society, a British member of SAFE, had their lobby day, where they met members of parliament, to discuss how to move the UK towards plant-based diets. Participation was open to anyone interested and supporters from across the country were encouraged to join this initiative and meet their local representatives in person.
