I'm withdrawing from participating @federation_hss @mcgillu and have refused a graduate merit award. This would have been my last presentation(s) as a grad student and I was excited to be on two amazing panels but I stand in solidarity with the calls to @boycott_FHSS.

Started this week with a rejection letter, ending this week with my dissertation being uploaded online. What a relief to be here, but so many more histories of queer families to write! hdl.handle.net/1974/33159 #CdnHistory #FamilyHistory #QueerHist

This. So much this. I am boycotting Congress in support of the @AMPL/AMPD strike and the pro-Palestine student encampment but as a grad student it has come at a cost I can ill afford. So much love to grad students and precariously employed academics who are struggling with this.
I have hesitated to share these thoughts because I’m not one who is very comfortable with attention, but I feel it necessary to bring to attention anxieties I’ve had regarding the upcoming #FHSS Congress, mutual aid, and the most marginalized in academia (very long)

@SaidInHistory has written a piece about her PhD research into the history of queer families/parenting in Canada & how “parental rights” have been used as a dog whistle and to attack the LGBTQ community. This is not new. @LGBT @ContraPoints @CdnPressNews edmontonjournal.com/opinion/…

I’ve been thinking about the ethics of sharing difficult material with audiences, as I present research on how climate crisis is impacting mothers & potential mothers. Who has been writing about how to take care of listeners when we present sensitive research?

Are there any #CdnHist #historians using @CBCRadioCanada archival sources? I cannot for the life of me figure out how to find 1970s-1980s news stories I am seeing referenced in other sources. Help? #twitterstorians

Myron Demkiw, who was a member of the squad that carried out the Pussy Palace raid, was recently appointed to Toronto Chief of Police. This raises concerns about what this means for LGBTQ and other marginalized communities. To read more, links for articles are in our bio!

#Twitterstorians I'm working with students on rough drafts of their research papers and I want to point them to some examples of well-written introductions. What is your all-time favourite introduction to a history essay? #HistFam class but open to any suggestions!

Family are the ones we share dust with - "after years of living as family, dust binds us. I think of the hugs hello and goodbye; the proximity of bodies who know each other... passing and repassing the same intimate, domestic spaces, shedding skin and hair and fingernails."

The Durham District School Board has pulled The Great Bear from its libraries, and I’m shocked. We need to be putting more books by Indigenous authors on the shelves, not taking them out. This is an insult to teachers, librarians, and children. thestar.com/news/gta/2022/04…

I am very excited to be teaching my first class on Canadian histories of the family in the Fall, but feeling rather unprepared for course development. What course design/ #pedagogy books would you recommend for a newbie history instructor? #HigherEd #CdnHist
