I've been following UK aid for a long time (>40 years) and the @commonsidc session with @FCDOGovUK Perm Sec yesterday (bit.ly/3TwvuwP) is about the most depressing I've come across. 0.5, lumps taken out for refugee 1st year costs. UK aid in crisis?

Wonderful to celebrate (23/4) the end (at least of this phase) of my 25 year career as a civil servant with brilliant, committed colleagues and a few surprise guests. It has been a privilege. My parting messages for the challenges ahead: 1/8 (apologies for late post)

On these "staggering costs of net zero", a reminder the Climate Change Committee estimates £1,300bn of investment costs by 2050 across the entire economy, offset by £990bn of savings. Net cost of £310bn over thirty years. So: around £10bn a year, or 0.5% of GDP

Via Mail on Sunday. Senior govt source said Lord Frost's departure had been prompted by intro of 'Plan B' Covid measures. That final straw after months of growing discontent over tax rises and the staggering cost of 'net zero' environmental policies. dailymail.co.uk/news/article…

Either we kill coal or coal will kill us. A phase down of coal won’t save the Maldives and island nations. #COP26
