Incredibly dishonest to pretend that the formal lenders were any less of loan sharks. They were literally lending at 500-1,000% APR but hey, it was done digitally!
Also, using the "foreign investment and tax" card is straight out of tobacco lobby and honestly, really desperate.

We were fed the same bullshit about microfinance as well, of the conventional wisdom about the rates coming down "automatically". Unsurprsingly, it didn't happen and the rates continue to remain high, with virtually no change in opex.

My wife, Khadijah Shah, an innocent Pakistani citizen, has been imprisoned for 5 months. She wrote this heartbreaking open letter from jail. We did not make it public so far, hoping she’d be released after bail, but now the authorities aim to involve her in another false FIR.
