This one always hits me hard, especially with how Russia gets painted as the ultimate villain these days. In 1863, America was ripping itself apart in the Civil War. The Union was exhausted and close to breaking. Britain and France smelled blood and they were ready to jump in and take advantage. Britain secretly built warships for the Confederacy and France sent troops into Mexico while plotting to back the South for its own empire dreams. Then Russia showed up. Two full naval squadrons sailed halfway around the world. One anchoring right in New York Harbor, the other in San Francisco. They stayed almost a year. Americans went crazy with parades, banquets, and real cheers in the streets. For a moment, the Russian flag felt like actual hope when almost no one else offered any. Russia’s ships didn’t fire a single shot in the war, but their presence boosted morale, helped protect U.S. ports, and quietly warned Europe to stay out. Of course it wasn’t pure friendship! Russia had its own smart reasons like keeping its fleet safe, pushing back against Britain and France over Poland, and betting on a strong America as a future counterweight. But when interests aligned, it actually helped. That goodwill later played a part in the 1867 Alaska Purchase the deal everyone called “Seward’s Folly” at the time is now one of America’s best moves ever. I don’t know… learning this made me realize how much history gets simplified into good guys vs bad guys. Nations act on interests, not eternal loyalty. Today’s villain can be yesterday’s quiet partner. The world is more complicated than the current narrative wants us to believe. Makes you think, doesn’t it?

Якщо вважати, що українська мова є єдиною ознакою українця, тоді виникає складне питання щодо мільйонів громадян України, які історично спілкувалися рускою мовою в різних регіонах країни. На мою думку, українська нація має об’єднувати всіх своїх громадян незалежно від рідної мови. Українцем людину робить не лише мова спілкування, а й громадянство, культура, історія, відданість своїй країні (не державі!) та її майбутньому. Тому російськомовні громадяни України є такою ж невід’ємною частиною українського суспільства, як і україномовні. А якщо ні, то ви самі віддаєте Крим, Донбас, Одесу Росії. Бо ви не визнаєте там рускомовних українців та їх права говорити іншою мовою окрім української.

This is fight to the last Ukrainian and it's disgusting. Young men are dying daily while the script is collapsing. Are the same people who screamed “no negotiations with the aggressor” are now knocking on Moscow’s door? The hypocrisy is grotesque. Billions burned. A generation destroyed. For what? A failed fantasy of “weakening Russia forever? Time to end the slaughter. Real talks. Real peace.
