Now, perhaps more than ever, is the time for scientists to be vocal in their political engagement, and support the policy makers that will address the numerous crises that are unfolding globally.
Scientific American has never endorsed a presidential candidate in our 175-year history—until now. The 2020 election is literally a matter of life and death. We urge you to vote for health, science and Joe Biden for President. scientificamerican.com/artic…

This is an unhelpful comment, science is a collaborative process and inputs are intended to be constructive. Not to mention that not every public health expert is a doctor, some are scientists highly trained with primary or masters degrees in public health.
The only people with detailed knowledge of outbreaks in Ireland are Public health doctors. Let’s support them at this onerous time. #everyonesanexpert

This. Ireland is not being draconian in measures, we are preserving the staggeringly low capacity our our health service.
Replying to @DrZeroCraic
2. The reason that we have to take harsher measures than our EU colleagues is because our health system is out of line with that of the rest of Europe. We have no capacity whatsoever to deal with any increased demand or pressure placed on the health system. None at all.

The origin of this story is one of my colleagues asked for an immunity explainer, and I said, "GOD NO, have you any idea how complicated immunology is, that would kill me," but then I realized that I am already dead inside, and wrote the piece. theatlantic.com/health/archi…

“Low spending states, further declining” an apt description of the funding situation in Ireland. Policies are urgently needed to address this.
Report shows how much states spend on research & development. Outlines scale of the challenge ⁦@SimonHarrisTD⁩ & ⁦@NiallCollinsTD⁩ have, though it is achievable over the lifetime of the government. Think about what we could learn about #COVID if we funded R&D properly
