Norway Has Joined the French Nuclear Club. And About Time.
For decades, the polite fiction of European security went something like this: America provides the nuclear umbrella,
Well. Norway has just kicked that fiction into the fjord.
Jonas Gahr Støre and his defense minister Tore O. Sandvik flew to Paris today and formally accepted France’s invitation to join a nuclear weapons cooperation framework.
This is extraordinary. Norway, a country better known for salmon, sovereign wealth funds and a constitutional allergy to conflict, has just signed up to sit at the adult table of nuclear strategy. The Vikings are back, and this time they brought Charles de Gaulle.
Washington’s imperial project, built on seven decades of forward deployment, treaty commitments and the implicit promise that an attack on Tallinn is an attack on Texas, is visibly fraying.
The Europeans have watched this happen and drawn the only logical conclusion available to sentient adults: if you want security, you need to build it yourself.
Norway joining this framework is not just symbolically significant. It is a formal signal that a Nordic country with deep NATO roots, a border with Russia and no prior interest in nuclear arrangements has decided that French deterrence is a serious proposition worth serious engagement. When Oslo moves, others will notice.
The White House, watching its carefully constructed European empire rearrange itself without asking, must be having a deeply unpleasant morning.

Ukraine needs to teach NATO countries how to fight a modern drone war against Russia.

🚨 Handful of Ukrainian drone pilots annihilated Swedish ground forces in the most recent war game that simulated a Russian attack on NATO's eastern flank.
Conclusion: For Europeans to stand a chance against a Russian invasion, they need to send troops to Ukraine now and learn firsthand by fighting the Russians.
From AP:
A group of Ukrainian drone pilots, invited to teach Western forces how to win at drone warfare, destroyed Sweden’s troops in an exercise where the Ukrainians played the role of the aggressor, a 24-year-old drone pilot told the AP.
“They stopped the training three times” for troops to work out what to do better, but if it were real life they would have been dead, he said, giving his call sign Tarik in line with Ukrainian military regulations.
Swedish troops have potential but need to improve their drones and tactics and commanders need a deeper understanding of drone warfare, said another pilot with the call sign Karat.
He described flying small, first-person-view attack drones on the front line against Russian forces. Sometimes drone pilots are supported by reconnaissance drone teams but other times they are “working blindly.”
Western forces cannot understand what it is like, he added: “You need to see this with your own eyes.”
