Bethancourt absolutely weaponized abuse for political purposes. The only thing more unethical than recording meetings he agreed was confidential was deceptively mischaracterizing those recordings as a hitman for Russell Moore. Many in the SBC see that clearly now.
Yes, @ronniefloyd was grossly misrepresented by @drmoore and @pbethancourt, along with @bobsmietana and @RobertDownen_ who both mysteriously mistranscribed Bethancourt’s secretly recorded audio in the exact same way, suggesting somebody didn’t listen to it and copied the other. Pastor Floyd deserves accountability for how his reputation was falsely smeared.

Congratulations to @WillyRice on his election as president of the SBC. I am heartened by this outcome for numerous reasons. Pastor Rice effectively sees and understands the challenges the SBC has faced in recent years. His courage and convictions will meet those challenges directly, and I am optimistic that he will be able to bring about significant reform. As I reflect on this victory, I am reminded that this moment would likely never have come, had it not been for a number of pastors and lay leaders who began raising these concerns and working to offer solutions more than a decade ago. Those men (and some courageous women) have been attacked, maligned, misrepresented, criticized, and mocked for attempting to stand for truth and do what is right. They bear scars, lost influence, lost positions, lost opportunities, and quite a few harmed reputations. They paid a cost few will understand. They feared God more than man. Institutions and organizations have come and gone. There have been wins and many regrets. Some rose to the challenge. Others folded for an easier path. Stewarding a denomination toward orthodoxy and biblical fidelity is a challenge beyond human capability. Yet so many did what they could and more. Today is not the end. Perhaps it is only the beginning of a correction that will take years to come to pass. May it be so. While I am encouraged, I am not naive. The path ahead will be difficult. It will require fortitude and courage. Men with spines—those who are real leaders and not mere managers—need to step to the plate. I pray they will. #sbc26

I want to thank so many of you who have reached out personally to congratulate us and assure us of your prayers. We are humbled and accept this opportunity for service knowing it is a stewardship for which we will give account. I want to congratulate my brother, Josh Powell, and his wonderful family for his exemplary conduct and efforts during this season. My esteem for him has only grown and I know he will be a voice in Southern Baptist life for years to come. We need 1000 pastors like him. I want to assure all Southern Baptists, those who voted for me and those who didn’t, that our desire is to serve our Lord and you and my prayer is indeed that God will bring us into a season of reconciliation and renewal. It is my hope to listen and to serve and I ask for your prayers, your patience, and your continued cooperation as we continue in the good work God has given us to do.

This is shameful Dean, both in your framing of what the chart actually depicts & the slanderous accusation you make. Do the honorable thing & delete this.
There is a chart going around comparing the SBC President candidates that is somewhere on the scale of propoganda, to painting Powell in a beta leader type light. Which is strange for someone who was trusted to be our most recent chair of SBTS. I know Willy well and am sure he has nothing to do with it. He’s my friend, that ain’t ever changing. It is clear, however, that whomever made it is slanted. That is not a hot take. A chart comparison is helpful, if it is fair and accurate. Josh has never said he wants to dismantle the credentials committee, he has said MUCH more about being president than to just “serve.” He has also been in favor of every draft of the amendments from Law to Mohler current. Here below is what’s going on in real life, that I hope people can see, regardless of your preferred candidate. Both are proven men, conservatives in every sense of the word, who deserve a fair representation. 👇

Dean, please take this post down. It is not true and it does not help messengers see the real differences between the candidates. For those who want to see the original context of the chart, see the @Christ_OverAll article below.

This is reprehensible. Yet another clear signal of why @MakeKidsGreater and @ThemBeforeUs is so important. May the Lord bring this child some kind of comfort in the future, and may these two adult men turn from their sin and do what is truly best for this child and for themselves
Tells the baby he doesn’t have a mother. The baby cries while the man laughs. Being sold is a joke I guess? Why is this legal?

Keep an eye on this case with significant implications for religious liberty.
Lesser-known but consequential unfortunate news: National Religious Broadcasters v. Bessent, a challenge to the unconstitutional IRS Policy (know as the Johnson Amendment) was dismissed by a district judge. This Johnson Amendment muzzles pulpits and nonprofits across the US. Thank you to @NRBAssociation, Sand Springs Church, and First Baptist Church of Waskom for bringing this important challenge. They will be appealing.

Grateful to see the Supreme Court make this decision. Important on so many levels.
🚨 BREAKING: The Supreme Court, in an 8-1 vote, holds that Colorado’s ban on “conversion therapy,” violates the First Amendment and counselors' free speech rights. This is a significant victory for truth and common sense and unties the hands of Christian counselors in speaking life and truth from Scripture. Quoting from the opinion, here are a few highlights: 🔸 "The First Amendment protects the inalienable right of every individual to decide for himself 'how best to speak.' 🔸“'Viewpoint discrimination' represents an even more 'egregious form' of content regulation from which governments must nearly always 'abstain.'" 🔸"As applied to Ms. Chiles, Colorado’s law regulates the content of her speech and goes further to prescribe what views she may and may not express, discriminating on the basis of viewpoint." 🔸"History is littered with examples of governments that have sought to manipulate professional speech 'to increase state power,' 'suppress minorities,' and censor ‘unpopular ideas.’” 🔸The First Amendment stands as a bulwark against any effort to prescribe an orthodoxy of views, reflecting a belief that each American enjoys an inalienable right to speak his mind and a faith in the free marketplace of ideas as the best means for finding truth. Laws like Colorado’s, which suppress speech based on viewpoint, represent an egregious assault on both commitments." Read the opinion of the Court here: supremecourt.gov/opinions/25…

The Danbury Institute continues to believe that churches and pastors hold the critically important responsibility in training Christians in biblical worldview. Pastors, pray that God will help you show people how to apply the clear truth of Scripture to their daily lives and perspectives. The Danbury Institute stands ready to support churches in doing exactly that. Thank you, @toddstarnes, for this timely report.
A shocking new survey from @George_Barna shows that most American churches are not equipping Christians with a biblical worldview. That explains the moral chaos and rot in our culture. Many American churches are more focused on American Idol worship bands and roasting coffee beans than they are studying God's Word. @ACU_AZ
