This is actually a pretty cool idea. Having it as an option on each subreddit could be cool. Phones have a pretty reliable "Are you human" check that preserves privacy but verifies a human face was present to press send.
JUST IN: Reddit CEO says the company is considering requiring Face ID to ensure humanity in order to crack down on AI bots.

Thomas Henderson in 1832 measured the parallax of a star (Alpha Centari) for the first time against its background stars. He measured 20 trillion miles (real number is 25 trillion!). 5 orders of magnitude greater than the largest distance ever recorded. And he sat on that discovery for 6 years. For six years he was the only man on earth who knew the universe was 10,000 times bigger than any previous measurement implied. And then in 1838 and 1839 a bunch of publications came out and everyone on earth accepted that the universe is massive. About a century later the first distant galaxy was measured to be ANOTHER 6 orders of magnitude further away.

My friend has been working on this game for literally 10 years. Possibly only 9 and a half. It's finally happening!

Everyone talks about exponential returns on capital. But something I haven't heard explained very well is that there's also exponential returns on experience. You need to manage 10 people before you can manage 100. And then 1000 and then 10,000. Keep compounding experience.

This is amazing! And I I think it might work well in VR if you have analytical anti-aliasing on the dots!
New dithering method dropped I call it Surface-Stable Fractal Dithering and I've released it as open source along with this explainer video of how it works. Explainer video: youtube.com/watch?v=HPqGaIMV… Source repository: github.com/runevision/Dither… #gamedev #vfx

visionOS in REAL LIFE?! To pitch one of my Vision Pro app concepts to an online interior shop, we prototyped an idea we’ve had for a while: What if you could bring visionOS windows into the real world by printing them onto real frosted glass panels? Not only would this make for a fantastic marketing stunt, but it could also allow people to (kind of) experience these apps in stores without needing to wear a headset at all. Finding the perfect glass, turning a digital design into a printable layout, and producing it took many iterations. Each time, we had to reprint and refine the design, which took several months. For a single pitch, it was definitely too much work, but it was a fun experiment. Looking ahead, I can see this concept becoming the future of advertising Spatial Computing apps in the physical world.

I have one friend that went ridiculing Elon's claims that full self driving was finally coming in 2025 to getting the 13.x upgrade and saying "I would feel comfortable taking a nap in the backseat" and "FSD is a better driver than 90% of Ubers I've ever taken".
FSD 13.2.x has improved highway miles between disengagements by 750% 🤯

Samo pointed out that the entire flow of the Nile River for a year would cost $30B from desalinated ocean water. That's about 10% of Egypt's GDP, but nearly 100% of its GDP is due to the presence of the Nile. So we can create new Egypts wherever we'd like.
Geography no longer has to define a nation's destiny according to @SamoBurja on the Live Players podcast. New desalination technology makes it possible to reshape global power.

I read this book as well as "Bringing up Bebe" (the one about french parenting) about 5 years before having kids. They were and are very interesting. From Tiger Mother: it's okay to push your children to do hard things. From Bebe: it's okay to make your children eat adult foods.

This is really really cool: arxiv.org/abs/2412.09548 NVIDIA came up with a network architecture to create damn good meshes from point clouds. They tune the attention of the transformer to look only locally and have a recursive model that generates one vert/tri at a time.

Entropy is the "expected amount of surprise given a distribution of possible outcomes". In a spiky distribution you are very unlikely to be surprised. But in a uniform distribution, just about every outcome is a bit surprising. And this ends up with a larger total entropy.
Entropy is one of those formulas that many of us learn, swallow whole, and even use regularly without really understanding. (E.g., where does that “log” come from? Are there other possible formulas?) Yet there's an intuitive & almost inevitable way to arrive at this expression.

This app is excellent on iOS and absolutely incredible on Vision! Ambient Occlusion is the one true lighting 😍 Every single atom that's part of the biology of this cell is rendered. It's just amazing. Try it!
I just finished CellWalk's new ambient occlusion and noise filters. 48 samples/pixel. About ~300-400us for the ao kernel. Taken on #AppleVisionPro Still more to fix, but it looks so good now, and it's 2-3x faster than before (6x more samples) #computergraphics #sciart #scicomm
