Here it is! What's New in UIKit in iOS 26.
This was a pretty mammoth undertaking, and it shows ā a whopping 64 minute read!
I'll be keeping this article up to date over the beta cycle. Possibly littered with errors. Shout at me if I've made any stupid mistakes.

Maybe this is the case? But, at least in my opinion, the perfect circle in the concept below just looksā¦wrong? Thereās too stark a contrast between the curvature of the orb and the perfectly straight edge of the display.
A pill feels much more ānaturalā in this context, and more in keeping with Appleās philosophy of blurring the lines between software and hardware.
Apple designed the new Siri with the iPhone 18 Pro/Max in mind, as with the rumored smaller Dynamic Island it's a perfect orb
This explains why it's not a pill in iPadOS and MacOS

Looks like UIScrollEdgeEffect.Style.hard? Perhaps this is the new default with the .automatic style?
Might be able to opt in to the 26 behaviour with .soft?

Looks like UITabBarController _officially_ supports custom "prominent" tab bar items?
Providing there is no UISearchTab present, the UITab whose identifier matches the tab bar controller's prominentTabIdentifier gets placed on the trailing edge of the tab bar, visually separated from other tabs!
