Report on @Alphaschool Shadow day in Atlanta: well executed day in the life of a typical school day. Held at a hotel, but excellent setup with guides, and a classroom experience. Kids did not want to go (school on Saturday!?) but at the end of the day they loved it. Highlights were the life skills, building things, and Alpha points. My son told me after: “we have to try hard things, even if you make a mistake it’s ok.” They loaded them up with some educational toys they showed off at home, later. I’m super interested in Timeback and wished I could have peeked at it and the apps they had them do. Glad we did it. Now to come up with the dough, to pay for it! It’s as pricey as all the private schools here….

The older I get, the more I realize that optimism is a competitive advantage. Not blind positivity. The belief that problems can be solved. That things can improve. That your actions matter. People who believe a better future is possible are the ones who create it.

Phew. Was feeling guilty about this!
The only thing worse than having the CEO knee-deep in building stuff with AI is not having the CEO knee-deep in building stuff with AI.

Just signed the kids up for Alpha Summer School (the one week experience)! I'm more excited than they are!

Maybe if parents had support, they'd have more kids. Maybe AI agents can be a part of that support system. Maybe AI uses computers so we can touch grass.

Jesse Genet on why AI could reverse fertility rate decline: "AI will be a dawn of a reversal in that fertility rate decline and will be a golden era for parenthood." "People want purpose. One of the most meaningful things that humans have gravitated towards, that gives a feeling of a life's purpose, that has been a forever thing, is having kids." @jessegenet @KTmBoyle @sarahdingwang

My wife this morning: "Wow! Building out an open claw agent. I called it Daphne. Getting it to build out a meal plan based on our Amazon grocery orders and [our favorite meal prepper's] sample menus." Look what you've done @jessegenet !

If my 12-year-old self could see me now: “Of course I’m still good at video games, drive a cool futuristic truck, and help make robots as my job.” But he would not believe: “I like to sit in a sauna and listen to sermons and historical accounts of Jesus.”

Honestly, this is the most accurate diagram I've seen. Waterfall: You plan for 18 months and deliver exactly what nobody needs anymore. Agile: You deliver something usable at every step, but the CEO keeps asking, "Where's the car?" AI: You get the car on day one. It has six wheels, the doors are on backwards, and it has a rocket launcher. You spend more time making it yours than actually "building"; it's shaping. owning. verifying. That's what the best AI developers do now. They don't build. They shape and own.

This might sound morbid, but are you planning a funeral now or expect to in 2026? I know a new company that offers a simple, supported way to plan after a loss starting with celebrations of life (live!) and direct cremation (coming soon).

That's a first. GPT-5.4 via Codex refused to do a feature, stating it could not help me, that it was too risky to add physical access to a machine. It then suggested a way to do it, so I said fine do that, and it refused to do that too. Wild. It's stuck in some safety loop.

You do realize I’m trying to help America eliminate fraud and waste right? No need to try and make me look like the bad guy for exposing fraud. People are over it. Start working for the people and not against them.

Yes, the LLM coding agents are getting better. But still having to really coax them to get a quality PR that a good dev team would accept. "still got a scrollbar on the right, can you just remove it?" "why does it still have a scrollbar? start over on design and don't use it." Is it just me?

Austeruary is a month-long, self-imposed practice of austerity undertaken in January. The aim is simple: begin the year by voluntarily forgoing easy pleasures to restore agency, clarity, and discipline.

3. No phone in the bedroom (by the bed), nor while on the toilet. 4. No cigars. 5. No doubts on the big things that matter: my family’s prosperity, Greenzie’s success, my personal abilities resolve. (But, continue to still doubt and interrogate reality and the minutiae).
