Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani Reaffirms Commitment to Eradicating Child Labour
Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, on the occasion of the International Day Against Child Labour, observed annually on 12 June, reaffirmed Pakistan’s collective commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and future of every child.
In his message, the Chairman Senate stated that child labour remains a grave challenge that deprives millions of children of their childhood, education, health, and opportunities for a better future. He emphasized that no child should be forced into labour at the expense of education, safety, and personal development.
Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani noted that every child deserves access to a safe environment, quality education, and equal opportunities to grow into an empowered and productive citizen. He acknowledged that while Pakistan has made important progress in promoting child welfare and protecting vulnerable communities, sustained efforts are still required to fully eliminate child labour.
The Chairman Senate further underscored the responsibility of Parliament and lawmakers to ensure that legislation and policies effectively protect children from exploitation and create pathways for education, protection, and opportunity.
“On this important day, let us renew our resolve to work together for a Pakistan where every child is free from exploitation and empowered to realise their full potential. A society that protects its children secures its future,” he remarked.
