I was honored to join @MetCouncil at their annual breakfast this Sunday. Besides honoring Met Council's great work fighting hunger and poverty in NYC, it was also a privilege to stand with @GovKathyHochul as she signed my legislation protecting safe access to houses of worship.

After the horrific incident outside Park East Synagogue, I became the first legislator to introduce this proposal - and today, buffer zone protections were included in the final State Budget. Thank you to all the electeds and advocates who joined the fight to worship safely.

PASSED! My social work bill with @SenatorSutton has passed both Houses! This bill extends limited permits for LMSWs & LCSWs from 1 years to 2 years an additional 2 years at @NYSEDNews' discretion. With this legislation, we are easing the pathway to licensure for social workers without lowering standards, allowing them to study for their exams without having to worry about job security. A special shoutout to Joshua Fleischer from @OHELFamily for working with our office on this effort & to @nasw for their advocacy. I look forward to seeing this legislation enacted to help strengthen and support New York’s social work workforce.

I joined @AmyPaulin & more than 75 legislators to send a letter to the Governor urging action to fund access to affordable health coverage in this year’s budget. Our bill, S9589/A10926, would address this looming crisis. Madam Governor, the time is now to protect NYers’ health.

Multiple synagogues and private homes in Queens were vandalized overnight with swastikas and other antisemitic graffiti. @Lynn4NYC, @PhilWongNYC and I are at one of the sites, Congregation Machane Chodosh, in Forest Hills now. When rabbis and congregants arrived to pray this morning, they expected to be met with their usual loving community. When a family woke up, they were prepared to begin an otherwise normal week. Instead, they were met with terrifying signals of hatred and threats of violence. We have visited some of these locations and are in contact with the NYPD, which is investigating and searching for at least four individuals responsible for the terrible incidents. The graffiti will be removed once the investigation is complete. With antisemitism on the rise here and across the globe, we will always stand up for our Jewish community and fight back against hate.
