From 1966 to 2025 we dropped sterile flies over South America that ate screwworm and thus prevented them from spreading, but the le epic efficient cracked coders at DOGE thought this was a silly waste of the ~0 dollars it cost us.
NEWS: Screwworm has been detected in Texas, USDA confirmed - marking a serious threat to US cattle and other animals Larvae of the parasite were found in the umbilical cord of a 3 week old calf Screwworm was eradicated from the US in 1966

Everyone commenting on this is confused about large predator behavior. Bears dont have to just win the fight, they have to win EVERY fight with no major injuries for their entire lives. A dog-sized snack is not worth the risk of losing his eye. The dog is not competing with him for territory or food or mates. He has basically no reason to fight it. The thing is bears are also like this with humans... he really doesnt want anything to do with you
The theory is that if you encounter a bear, you should avoid eye contact and slowly retreat instead of turning around and running. Interestingly, bears behave the same way when they leave

8 year old neighbor kid has a baby sister due this summer. I asked him when exactly and he said the week before his birthday, and he is really worried she is going to come on his birthday, because he wants to go bowling and she "will probably want to go to the mall or something"

Did you even read what I wrote or just stopped halfway through to fire off a β€œNot everyone wants to be a mom HOLY SHIT” response? At no point did I ever suggest that they should have kids (or should want to have kids). I just didn’t like seeing them demean their abilities
It amazes me how some people are incapable of understanding that not every woman WANTS to give birth or make 62992679 sacrifices just for "motherhood." Holy shit, the fact that this is even a topic of discussion in 2026 is indicative of how regressive a lot of you people are.
