What's going on in the Seattle mayor's office right now is not just a few personnel changes. As ECB writes (link in next tweet), they're in the midst of a full scale reorg/reset.
The Chief of Staff got sidelined, the point person on the mayor's signature shelter initiative got purged, now the comms director is now out the door, plus a whole bunch of other positions are getting reshuffled, and word on the street is there are more departures to come. Some personnel changes after a new administration's shakeout cruise are to be expected, but this level of change is unusual.
So what's going on?
The original fault line in
@MayorofSeattle Katie Wilson's office was between the progressive activist outsiders who the mayor brought in with her from the campaign, and the old City hands who weren't as personally close to the mayor but were tapped because they knew their way around the building. Now, less than six months in to the new administration, my general reading of the tea leaves is that the balance of power in the office appears to be decisively shifting in favor of the more experienced hands. Because, the mayor has realized, activism and governance are very different things.
