I think about this one often, John gets it
“Coding” was never the source of value, and people shouldn’t get overly attached to it. Problem solving is the core skill. The discipline and precision demanded by traditional programming will remain valuable transferable attributes, but they won’t be a barrier to entry. Many times over the years I have thought about a great programmer I knew that loved assembly language to the point of not wanting to move to C. I have to fight some similar feelings of my own around using existing massive codebases and inefficient languages, but I push through. I had somewhat resigned myself to the fact that I might be missing out on the “final abstraction”, where you realize that managing people is more powerful than any personal tool. I just don’t like it, and I can live with the limitations that puts on me. I suspect that I will enjoy managing AIs more, even if they wind up being better programmers than I am.

Only one chance in this lifetime… Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him. I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.

Developers have a very good bullshit detector. It is very easy to talk (or read from) someone about their code and know if they’re full of shit within a few minutes. I don’t think Resident Evil lady is an elite coder… but you can tell Rivers Cumo knows his way around an API

In the future when anyone can create a movie or music with a prompt from their device it will seem like magic if you can create without it. Traditional art will have a profound impact on our culture in the future even if fewer people participate because of LLMs.

There will always be a segment of the population that seeks out human creation in the same way traditional calligraphers are employed to create signage rather than using photoshop or illustrator.

tl;dr I think it’s valuable to lean into creating art and music more than ever.

For web devs it’s very easy to work on different operating systems when you realize all you need is git, an IDE, a browser, and docker. These tools are easy to install on any OS. We don’t need to over complicate things IMO

Every few months I’ll think “I could be so much more productive on Linux” and then “macOS doesn’t give me problems like Linux sometime does and it does it all” maybe this feeling will be with me forever but then I remind myself that we don’t need much software to do our job

Seems likely the valve frame will be priced somewhere around the meta quest 3, the steam machine will be priced somewhere around the Xbox series S, and the controller will be priced the same as the console controllers. Lots of compromises on features makes me believe that these price targets were a focus from the beginning of their development

The answer to this is boring but the question exposes the real Ponzi scheme because we will never ever pay it back. We just keep printing more

I’m loving ghost of yotei but I’ll be damned - some things Rockstar just did better in 2018 and when you see it you notice it.

Even if you wrapped the entire planet in a solar panel, you would only be producing 20% of global energy. One of the biggest mistakes politicians can make is equating the ELECTRICITY with ENERGY!
Community note
Earth gets ~1.5M TWh/day of solar energy, which is 3,000× global energy use of ~165K TWh/year. Covering just 1% of land with panels could theoretically power the planet. Electricity *is* energy. Electrification replaces fossil fuel use in transport, heat, & industry. iea.org/reports/global… axionpower.com/knowledge/powe… ourworldindata.org/energy-mix esbnetworks.ie/docs/default-s… nrel.gov/gis/solar-reso…

Bitcoin is a put on fiat currency and traditional finance. It turns money from a weapon of war into a tool of peace. No gatekeepers, no trust required and a way out when the old system fails. Backed by math and power, once you understand it deeply, you will never go back.

many red flags in this statement that communicate he has no idea what he is talking about but my take away from this video is one shouldn't talk so confidently about unknowns (future value) especially if you don't fully understand the underlying technology. This was a buy signal

Bitcoin was $16k when he said this. It's up 7.1x since then. Never has such an ignorant statement been made with such confidence.
