📢New study: Climate model simulations of central #Arctic surface temperatures are more accurate than appreciated, whereas the benchmark data from observation-based reanalyses are biased warm rdcu.be/dz6mL @ShutingDK @jacobhoeyer @PEnglyst @dmidk #NCKF_DK @optimESM_eu

Our paper goes online in @NatureClimate! We examined El Niño behavior over thousands of years in multimodel ensemble after increased CO2, and found robust reduced El Niño amplitude after several hundred years in all models, even though large variations on short time scale.

Great joint of the #ice2ice project and the summary paper on abrupt Arctic climate changes - just out today in @NatureClimate! Current Arctic temperature increase is seen comparable to the abrupt changes during the D-O events in the last glaciation... nature.com/articles/s4155….

Decline on global airtraffic during the #COVID19 is also likely to have negative impact on short range weather forecasting at DMI. Past weeks have seen a gradual and significant decline on the amount of assimilated aircraft data in the DMI operational models HARMONIE-COMEPS.

The #COVID19 pandemic has cut the number of aircraft-based weather observations, with possible impacts on the quality of forecasts. Our web article has more details: ecmwf.int/en/about/media-cen…

Timo Vihma’s conclusion of excellent talk on Arctic-mid latitude linkages at #CryosphericExtremes. Stresses complexity of the linkages, direct vs indirect effects, and dependency on region and season. The question is not “if”, but “how” and “how much”!
