ALT Siblings' experience during pediatric intensive care hospitalization:
Healthy siblings visiting a brother or sister in the PICU may be affected by critical illness or injury.
The PICU environment, appearance of their ill sibling, uncertainty surrounding the illness and hospitalization, and changes within the family unit may affect their experiences.
The impact of critical illness or injury in siblings may last for an in- determinate time beyond the PICU admission.
We are just gearing up for #NationalSiblingsDay2022 tomorrow and thought we would share one of our fabulous clips from our patron @jowhiley
to get us off to a good start. #ItsaSiblingThing See you all tomorrow!
ALT - When mothers reported higher levels of psychological distress, they also reported more mental health problems in siblings in the family
- When families were living in poverty, mothers, siblings, and the child with learning disability had poorer mental health
- Siblings who had a disability themselves were also more likely to have mental health difficulties
