Here is your reminder that people who need help often look a lot like people who don’t need help. I was a high performer all through my PhD candidature and early career, but I was so unwell. Check in with PhD students, postdocs and ECAs. ❤️ @ThePhDPlace #AcademicMentalHealth

Fri, 27 Sept 2024. Late pm @NEBBS11 survey at Tynemouth (Tyne and Wear): low tide, 11 degrees. Six beached & intact fulmar corpses were collected, with remains of another seen. This was part of an unhappy fulmar wreck along our NE England coastline (bird flu has been identified).

This evening HPAI (bird flu) strain H5N5 has been confirmed from 5 of our fulmars collected at Druridge Bay (25 Sept) and from a further 3 collected at Seaton Sluice (28 Sept). A sad picture is emerging. This is the likely cause for the whole incident. So many fulmars affected.
Sunday, 29 September 2024. Another @NEBBS11 survey on the NE coast of England. Here, I sadly show six individually bagged fulmars collected today from the northern section of Whitley Bay beach (Tyne and Wear) – part of a wreck of this super seabird species. @NENature_ @NTBirdClub

Now well into our the second season of GPS-tracking nesting Fulmars in the Faroes, some quite remarkable flights are emerging. Most astonishing must be a trip from one bird traveling 2,550km southwest to a feeding spot of around 900km from New Foundland! @sjurdur, @SeabirdMortenF
