This is the worst bridge strike I’ve ever seen and on the WCML as well. All power to my colleagues sorting this out & keeping services on the move via diversionary routes!
📢 #LNRUPDATE - Bridge Strike 🔴 Services between Crewe & Euston will remain affected for the evening and into tomorrow.

Sad to see anti-cycling campaigners Vincent Stops & John Stewart accusing us of some sort of cover up. We've been clear. Falling cycle deaths is good news, but rising numbers of serious injuries shows we've much more to do. Hence our new Vision Zero plan - inc more bike lanes.

Today is International Level Crossing Awareness Day. #ILCAD Every year, accidents happen on level crossings - some are fatal. Please - always concentrate at level crossings
Last year we closed a level crossing in Gateshead after near misses involving cyclists, pedestrians and a dog walker. 😰 Always be aware of your surroundings at a level crossing! 👉 bit.ly/4ggI8wG #ILCAD #InternationalLevelCrossingAwarenessDay

As the father of a newborn child, these images are absolutely soul crushing. There is no world where this is okay anywhere. Done in my name apparently too…
40 days old and already without a mother and a foot. This is what Israel does. Murder and maim with one sole objective - steal more land by dehumanising all around them.

Remember that scene in Schindler’s List with the old man in a wheelchair? We watched the whole film at my Jewish secondary school. This reminds me of that…

This is EXCELLENT stuff and a sign that with the right approach, provision of housing by need and not just by greed is possible. Imagine if UK city mayors had these tax raising/funding powers? We could actually provide genuinely affordable housing & social type rents.
We're building 200,000 new affordable homes for New Yorkers. We're using every tool we have to fix our housing crisis. Block by Block is the boldest housing plan our City has seen this century. It is what New Yorkers have been demanding for decades. Learn more about our plan here: businessinsider.com/3-ways-m…

This idea should be ubiquitous if we were a normal country that cared about health, wellbeing, safety & environmental protection.
Should we give cyclists priority over cars? A new Dutch-inspired scheme has been built in Cambridge, which is England's first official 'cycle street'. It gives cyclists and pedestrians priority over motorists, with all on-road parking removed. What do you think of this?

Bournemouth beach today. We need to complete the Victorian dream for the place: a direct tram from the train station to pier. 45 min high speed shuttles from London. Infinity pools & funicular railways striating east & west cliff. Let a 1000 lidos bloom.

My bus was so hot my eyes were sweating. This is not okay
Today has been the hottest day in May on record with Kew Gardens provisionally reaching 34.8°C - exceeding the previous highest May temperature in the UK by a full 2 degrees Celsius🌡️ This heat would be exceptional in the UK even in mid summer, let alone in May📈

trenvista.net/noticias/oscar… Spain upgrading the 350kmh. Appears trains, signalling exists and the aim is to increase capacity. This is 6mph less than hs2's originally intended speed.

Japan, Korea and France all had 360km/h prototypes running when HS2 was specified. *Not* designing for that on a project 15 years away from operation would be negligent. Japan will deploy 360km/h when the Sapporo line opens in the 2030s and now China plans for 400km/h next year.

Do you know one of the big advantages of building the full HS2? More frequent, faster local services. Specifically in, but not by any means limited to, the north of England. The complaints are always nonsense and they've made it staggeringly more expensive.
Ironically, HS2 was never even popular with voters *in the north*, they wanted focus on fast local intra-north transport instead, and thought of hS2 as 'for London'. But the entire SW1 ecosystem is so crap at politics/communication they never figured this out in 20 years

I have absolutely no intention of arguing with housing reply guy twitter, most of which clearly have no idea what they’re talking about. The info’s out there people. Would recommend @publiclawcentre’s report for a start: pilc.org.uk/wp-content/uploa…

I forgot how insufferable housing reply guy twitter is…

“What is wrong with us” is thinking that less than 9% apparently “affordable” homes is appropriate development in an area like Peckham. Less than 9%. Not actually affordable, not council housing, no secure council tenancies. Less than 5% social rent, then it can get in the bin.

The question should be, why can’t we build decent quality council housing with social rents so that local communities can actually access housing in their area? What’s wrong with us is constantly hand waving unfit developments with little local benefit & profits for developers
