Today’s Vision Pro app has ruined animated movies for me—because this experience was simply miles better. I’m talking about "Oto’s Planet" by "Astrea", an animated story that is immersive while not being immersive.
The story follows a man named Oto, who enjoys a great life on his own little planet with his pet Skippy—until one day, a cosmonaut crashes onto the planet, disrupting the peace. The two must then find a way to share the planet.
The twist: The planet floats right in your room. If you’re feeling lazy, you can simply pinch and move the planet to follow the story. But if you’re feeling more active, you can physically move around the planet in your room and experience an incredibly fun way to “watch” a story unfold. And it doesn’t stop there—you can also interact with it and help Oto complete various tasks.
The future of spatial storytelling has many faces, and this might just be my favorite one yet. This app reminded me of what 2D animations will always struggle with: their stories are locked into a flat 16:9 rectangle. Even though this happened in my room it was one of the most immersive experiences I had so far on AVP.
I’m thrilled to give this one a perfect 5/5 Visions 🥽🥽🥽🥽🥽
