I was pleased to join colleagues at opening of the High-Level Meeting and Technical Workshop on Equitable Access to and Local Manufacturing of Health Products in Africa, hosted by the @WorldBank and the @_AfricanUnion. Strengthening local manufacturing of health products is fundamental to our health security, economic resilience, and sovereignty, Africa must move decisively from rhetoric to action. In collaboration with AU institutions, African Medicines Agency (AMA), @AfCFTA, and AUDA-NEPAD (@NEPAD_Agency), we are determined to unlock the persistent bottlenecks constraining manufacturing across the continent. Africa must transition from dependency to production; from importing solutions to building them. We remain committed to working closely with the World Bank Group and partners to achieve the target of manufacturing 60% of Africa’s health products locally by 2040. #LocalManufacturing #AHSS #HealthSecurity ------- J’ai eu le plaisir de rejoindre mes collègues à l’ouverture de la Réunion de haut niveau et de l’Atelier technique sur l’accès équitable et la fabrication locale des produits de santé en Afrique, organisés par le Groupe de la Banque mondiale et l’Union africaine. Le renforcement de la fabrication locale des produits de santé est fondamental pour notre sécurité sanitaire, notre résilience économique et notre souveraineté. L’Afrique doit passer résolument du discours à l’action. En collaboration avec les institutions de l’UA, AMA, AfCFTA et AUDA-NEPAD, nous sommes déterminés à lever les obstacles persistants qui freinent la production sur le continent. L’Afrique doit passer de la dépendance à la production — de l’importation de solutions à leur conception et fabrication. Nous restons engagés à travailler étroitement avec le Groupe de la Banque mondiale et nos partenaires afin d’atteindre l’objectif de produire localement 60 % des produits de santé de l’Afrique d’ici 2040.

First Annual Meeting of the PvSeroRDT Consortium in Dakar From October 20 to 22, 2025, the @PasteurDakar (IPD) hosted at the Center for Africa’s Resilience to Epidemics (CARE) the first annual meeting of the @PvSeroRDT project consortium, funded by @EDCTP and UKRI. This innovative project aims to strengthen the fight against malaria through the development of a rapid serological diagnostic test (Point-of-Care) capable of detecting Plasmodium vivax hypnozoites — an essential step to quickly identify and treat the disease, including in the most remote areas. Pink October: Institut Pasteur de Dakar committed to women’s health! As part of Pink October, the Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) is strengthening its commitment to the prevention and fight against women’s cancers: Free screening vouchers: On Tuesday, October 22, 2025, IPD donated 100 vouchers to LISCA in Dakar for the screening of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), the main risk factor for cervical cancer, and 50 additional vouchers were distributed in the Diourbel region (Touba and Mbacké). Internal awareness: A Pink Day was observed earlier this month by all IPD staff. Training and information: A Masterclass on women’s cancers is scheduled for Friday, October 31, to strengthen knowledge and share best practices.
