Another reason why the Army is in a state of Paralysis. Infantry Bns are absolutely scared and its politically easier to removed CS/CSS units which are actually needed. Rangers* are a brand new unit and some of the best guys we've got.
I think the British Army should never have amalgamated its regiments. It should have retained all of them. It could have made each company in a battalion carry the regiment’s name to keep it alive. It could then have done the same with the Army Reserve. Just a thought for tradition.

Its not about History its about belonging to something with a sense of purpose.

You could quite literally rebuild 1DIV from the vehicles below. Same vehicles as our closest European Ally, large numbers deployed in FLF areas already. However we will continue with UOR vehicles, extend (but do nothing) life for another 10 years and pat ourselves on the back.

I keep seeing Al Carns on about drones non-stop. Is he all aboard the Drone Hype and decided we dont need any manned platforms? Maybe they both resigned because the Government wouldn't fund a massive shift to drones?
A British drone industry would not be a cost. It would be a renaissance. British kit, designed here, built here, used by our forces and sold to our allies. War has already changed. Britain needs to as well. dailymail.com/debate/article…

The MOD talsk about drones non stop then buy 20 of them to fly around press conferences. There is literally no plan at all!

Just thinking of the recent procurement of CAVS by Lithuanian MOD. The current FLF Battlegroups operate in Estonia with nothing more than TCVs. Even in the 80s we had decided this was a poor idea which lead to SAXON.

To mechanise the FLF BGs it would only require roughly 30x TCV CAVS. We would also need to replace MRW variants within CS/CSS groups. For less than £70m we could offer a far more mobile force for the Estonian Defense Plans.

FLF surely offers the road to modernisation for 1XX forces. Start small and experiment, building that knowledge into 1XX. This also includes covers for USTs (@thinkdefence), better 2C nodes, 'white' fleet for non-tactical transport.

More surviving than fighting going on here.

Absolutely jolly to America to look at something we already agreed to buy then decided we would buy..... nothing instead. Good job if you can get it.
Proud to host representatives from the UK Ministry of Defence for a firsthand look at our manufacturing, sustainment, and training. Together with Marshall Land Systems, IRONCLAD brings 300 years of experience to support the UK’s Land Mobility Programme and future readiness.

Another day, another country thinking they need a wheeled and tracked option. UK doesnt think it needs any artillery.

Would be the perfect 155mm for 1XX.
🇸🇪 The Boden Artillery Regiment of the Swedish Ground Forces has received its first new Archer 155mm self-propelled gun based on the RMMV HX2 8x8 truck chassis. Source in the replies.

Unbelievable improvement to LADs and even most units if we could do something simple like this. 6T SV rated to 33T GTW. This would be a perfect Recovery use for Lightrole LADs or REME FRTs.

However even though the 12.5T trailer and 6T SV are both in service, there is absolutely zero chance of this happening due to reels of policy. Simple improvements would allow 4X and 11X to become alot more self sufficient.

Keeping in mind that right now, pre Defence Investment Plan publication, everyone is in waiting mode and HMG is not giving answers; and that trying to predict British Army vehicle choices is Divination of highest complexity, my talks and observations lead me to this assessment:

More FLF commitment or is the current FLF getting double hatted. Looked like it could've been 3CDO back in the day but not sure they would be interested in this type and scale of deployment these days. 4X serious lacks any mobility and cant double hat.
NATO Forward Land Forces, which will be deployed to Finnish Lapland, Rovaniemi and Sodankylä, will involve all Nordic countries, Netherlands, Britain & France. Sweden will have the leadership of the FLF-forces in Lapland.
