I'm going to explain this as simply as I can. For all of you thinking Elon Musk suddenly has a trillion dollars to spend, pay attention. You own a home. It's worth
$however much. Your home has contents. They're insured for
$however much. You have a 401k. It's valued at
$however much. You have a savings account and a checking account. They each have
$however much in them. You have other assets. A couple of credit cards with $30k limits. A Lawn mower. Wood chipper. A boat. A car, maybe two or three. Suddenly, on paper, you're a millionaire. All of those assets combined are your total net worth. But you have $1,800 in your checking account and the bills are due. You don't feel like a millionaire, but you are... on paper. That's the same thing with Elon Musk. Hope this helps.
