Facing the climate and nature emergency can mean sadness, loss and a disturbing sense of unreality.
Something I wrote a while back with my children in mind for @letterstoearth_ read here by Benedict Cumberbatch @letterslive
NB other emotions - defiance, hope - are also available.
'I want to tell you that I am sorry, and that I tried'

FREE IBRAHIM! Today, Ibrahim and three other activists were unjustly arrested while peacefully marching to Parliament to demand an end to fossil fuel subsidies. We call for their immediate release. #FreeIbrahim#ClimateJustice

A whole new type of democracy is thriving in one of the toughest places in the world - despite a media blackout.
Women lead. Taxes have been abolished and private property redefined. Prison is being phased out.
Everyone gets a say.
But now it's hanging by a thread. 🧵

Either the current govt are deeply cynical and misinformed on Heathrow and new oil fields, or it's a cunning plan to make everyone climate-concerned vote Green next election. Wouldn't you say @Ed_Miliband ?
So sad that idiots who talk shit get such a platform because of their $$$ and because other commentators fall over themselves to amplify them. On most subjects there are - shock horror - real experts and thoughtful people who actually deserve attention.

Congratulations to (S)hell for their win in court this week against the need to cut company emissions. Just the latest in a long and proud history of making the world a better place!
Part of the deep ‘unhappiness’ that drives people to the authoritarian right, is having a socio-economic system that treats the 99% as existing solely to service ‘the economy’.
All of us, our children included, ARE the economy. Their well-being is important and it should be balanced with academic achievement as part of broader holistic approach.
@bphillipsonMP should be congratulated for taking on the outdated & toxic attitude below.
The Education Secretary is explicitly turning schools away from education and towards "well-being", away from academic attainment and towards what the unions demand: less rigour and less accountability.
God help us. theguardian.com/education/20…
1/5 Trump's victory shows the authoritarian right can win even with rising GDP and supposedly 'good' economic figures. We must do three things if we don't want them to win here.

There's no take on this, no spin, that changes the fact it is fucking terrible for climate, nature and so much else. We get to feel like shit and react accordingly. Then at some point we drag our weary bones back up from the ground and do whatever is left that we can do.
Things have just got a lot more difficult . Here’s what I think . I had no control over what just happened . None . But I do have control over how I will react to it . And I am not going to give up on the beautiful and the good , the grip on my dreams just got tighter .
There is no easy way to talk about this. This week the UN announced we are on track to reach up to 3.1° Celsius of warming. We are slated to blow past the goals of the Paris Accords. Here's what this means. (1/9) 🧵
Apparently this awful security queue for the National Gallery is now permanent. I used to just walk up the steps and in. Just Stop Oil madness means this is just the future we are a living in.
Wonders of no longer living in a high trust society.
Someone messaged me with this and said it was OK to tweet. It’s similar to a friend who works v high up in a major tech company who says officially the company takes net zero very seriously but privately the bosses literally laugh at the idea they will cut emissions.
The only thing that has any chance of saving us right now, IMHO, are protests that force the media to tell the full truth with the aim of galvanising the public into demanding this is treated as the #1 priority. We need high profile people to speak out. IMHO there should be a focus on calling the Media out.
You simply can't expand airports and be serious about climate action. It's like saying you're serious about tackling drug abuse while building new cocaine distribution hubs. Saying the word 'growth' a lot doesn't change that one bit.
Bad news for the environment: David Cameron tells @r4Today that when you decide you want economic growth, everything else has to be bent to that objective. The #stansted expansion -awful for climate - looks proof that @Kier_Starmer is already following his path.
