Some people can’t see racism in health care. A Cree teen male went to the ER bc he was unwell. He sat, became delirious & security was called as they felt he was intoxicated. No vital signs were taken. He died 4ish hours later due to septicemia. I reported this. Nothing happened.
Next time you hear a land acknowledgement, please remember that acknowledging the land where one is standing does not make up for the history that it was taken from Indigenous people.
Mvto to Emory University President @gregfenves for acknowledging the Mvskoke people and announcing that Emory will now recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day! Actions like this are imperative for the inclusion of Native people in academic spaces.
"Today we are asked whether the land these treaties promised remains an Indian reservation for purposes of federal criminal law. Because Congress has not said otherwise, we hold the government to its word."

Sometimes your experiments fail and you feel beaten down by science, but then you hear someone like Huda Zoghbi give a brilliant talk about her neurodegenerative disease research, and you can't help but be inspired to keep going!
Thanks to everyone who made the Frontiers in Addiction Research and Pregnancy course possible! Stellar talks by diverse speakers covering basic science, clinical practices, translational research, and human rights as they relate to addiction. #FrARP#NIDA
Dear @nytimes , "Person with opioid addiction" may be 3 more words than "addict" but you'll save countless lives. Consider this: with stigmatizing language, ppl feel more discrimination & less likely to seek care MDs spend less clinic time = SUBPAR Care. Rise to the occasion.
Wow. The @nytimes is undermining the work of its own terrific writers by apparently insisting on the use of stigmatizing language about addiction.
Please RT if you agree that the newspaper should stop.
