Imagine if a police headquarters-style fraud was underway now. Is this how a whistleblower would be treated, told their letter couldn’t be distributed to councilors or be read into the record, and be told they had no standing to speak at public meetings? winnipegsun.com/opinion/city…

Bowers said questioning Peter's qualifications to manage the investigation and evaluate if a warrant was needed "a personal attack by a media outlet (that) does not align with the principles of ethical journalism nor serve the public interest." Really? open.spotify.com/episode/2WT…

The whole "Greater Israel" trope is based on a mistranslation of the Hebrew "Eretz Yisrael HaShlema" (ארץ ישראל השלמה), which means "The Whole/Complete Land of Israel", not "Greater Israel". The term refers to the territory of the former British Mandate of Palestine, not lands beyond it. Whatever one's views on settlements or annexation, there has never been an actual Israeli movement advocating expansion into neighbouring countries. The idea that Israel seeks territory beyond the Mandate's borders is pure propaganda rather than a reflection of any real Israeli political programme.

Are we going to revisit that conversation about black boys having "boundaries" yet, or does that only apply when they murder white people?

Oh, man. I was present for a bar-room conversation about 15 years ago where a Xinhua reporter went off on Canadian infrastructure timelines citing this project specifically. "In China, it would just be built."
🧵1/4 BREAKING: The Province has announced that negotiations with the contractor for the new Massey crossing have collapsed and the project is being sent back out to tender. This is a significant setback for one of BC’s most important transportation projects, and raises serious questions about the escalating costs for this project, and how this situation was allowed to develop in the first place.

🚨 Canada’s institutional capture is now complete. Since 2015 the Liberals have appointed: ⚖️ 740 of 1,000 federal judges 🏛️ 7 of 9 Supreme Court justices 📜 100 of 105 senators 📰 Fund 30% of every reporter’s salary in Canada And that’s just the foundation. Add to that: 📺 CBC: $1.4B annually to defend the Liberal narrative 🏦 Bank of Canada: Redefining recession in real time 📊 StatsCan: Counting Census workers as permanent jobs 📬 Senate: Hiding 240,000 democratic postcards in a warehouse 🌐 Bill C-8: MPs can delete you from the internet without a judge 🎙️ Carney on tape: Admitting central bankers bypassed voters on ESG They control the courts. They control the Senate. They control the Supreme Court. They control the media funding. They control the state broadcaster. Now they want to control the internet. Not one institution left standing independently. This is not democracy. This is managed decline with Canadian characteristics. And most Canadians are still waiting for CBC to tell them about it. 🇨🇦 Repost and Bookmark🔖 this post. 🇨🇦💀 #CdnPoli #Democracy #InstitutionalCapture #Carney #DefundCBC

Liberals believe fervently in the Lester Pearson world balance of the late 50s and early 60s. Honest broker is their mantra passed from Lester to PET to Martin to Chretien. it covered their retreat from a defence posture to a hipster stance that values style over substance. Hence the fury when Trump reminded them they were now untrustworthy clowns like Justin. Manley talking about a centralist dream long gone.
Former deputy PM John Manley: We used to always refer to the president of the United States as the leader of the free world. Donald Trump is not the leader of anything other than about the 37% of Americans that still support him. If anything, intellectually at least, Mark Carney has become the leader of the free world, the countries that believe in democracy and the rule of law.

It's not meant to lower food prices. It's meant to make Lib voters think the government is "doing something" while blaming food inflation on big corporations.

"Canadians shouldn't kid themselves. The food security plan coming from Carney won't guarantee lower food prices—it simply can't. Supporting independent grocers and food hubs is a sensible step, but it's still unclear how these measures will make supply chains more efficient rather than simply subsidizing parts of the industry. Food affordability ultimately depends on productivity, competition, investment, and efficient supply chains—not government spending alone."

I have regularly butted heads with the Privacy Commissioners we've had over the past 20 years, but sidelining an organization with decades of experience to empower an as yet unconstituted body is frankly shocking. #BillC34

I’ll be working on a post to unpack the key elements of Bill C-36, but the big story is the stripping of the Privacy Commissioner's powers over private-sector privacy law after 25 years. The Digital Safety Commission (now Digital Safety and Data Protection Commission of Canada) will now be responsible for both regulating online speech and content moderation across the country's largest platforms and overseeing how every organization in Canada collects, uses, and discloses personal information. There is no precedent in Canada for this kind of digital super-regulator.

What a pile of shit.
Great discussion with @MarkJCarney in Evian. Canada is truly the most European of the non-European countries. We are working together on digital trade, critical raw materials, and defence. We are also stepping up our cooperation on energy. Our next Summit, on 29–30 October in Canada, will be a major milestone in a partnership that continues to grow deeper and broader.
