This seems like a great idea! I am trying to read more.
1) Read more than you think you should 2) Write down everything, about everything, all the time 3) Build as many relationships as you can and learn to connect the dots between those relationships 4) Never turn down an opportunity to learn or to work

When you’re teaching a majority of students who are several grade levels behind in reading and writing, you’ll always be pulled back to the basics. You can talk about rigor all day, but if students can’t decode, comprehend, and write clearly, none of it sticks. The simple things will always be calling, and they deserve your attention.

Most people remember Tom Landry standing on the sidelines of Dallas Cowboys games. Few remember him sitting in the cockpit of a dying bomber over Europe. Before he became one of football's most famous coaches, Landry served as a B-17 pilot during World War II. Flying from England, he led missions deep into enemy territory where every flight carried the possibility of never returning home. Then came his 30th mission. High above Europe, German anti-aircraft fire found its target. Explosions ripped through the bomber. One engine failed. Then another. Then another. Then another. Suddenly, all four engines were gone. The massive B-17 was no longer flying. It was falling. Inside the aircraft were young airmen who knew exactly what that usually meant. D*ath. Panic could have spread through the crew. Landry never allowed it. Witnesses later recalled how calmly he fought to keep control of the powerless aircraft as it dropped toward the ground. With no engines and almost no options left, he guided the crippled bomber toward a field in France. Then came the impact. Steel scraped across the earth. The aircraft slammed into the ground. Against all odds, the crew survived. The young pilot had brought them home. Years later, America would know Tom Landry as the coach who built the Dallas Cowboys into a dynasty. Fans would admire his discipline, leadership, and calm under pressure. What many never realized was where those qualities were forged. Not on a football field. But inside a shattered bomber falling from the sky during World War II. Long before he coached champions, Tom Landry was already saving lives. Story based on historical records. Schools need to put a stop to unlimited extensions on late work. When students learn that deadlines are optional, they also learn that responsibility is optional.

"Satchel Paige had a very, very good fastball...... But the first time I faced Satchel, he threw me a little breaking ball, just to see what I could do, and I hit it off the top of the fence. I got a double. When I got to second, Satchel told the third baseman: 'Let me know when that little boy comes back up.' Three innings later, I go to kneel down in the on-deck circle, and I hear the third baseman say: 'There he is.' Satch looked at the third baseman, and then he looked at me. I walk halfway to home plate and he says: 'Little boy.' I say, 'Yes, sir?' because Satch was much older than I am, so I was trying to show respect. He walked halfway to home plate and said: 'Little boy, I'm not going to trick you. I'm going to throw you three fastballs and you're going to go sit down' and I'm saying in my mind: 'I DOOON'T THINK SOOOOOO. If he threw me three of the same pitch, I'm going to hit it somewhere. I turned to the catcher and asked: “What does he mean?” Catcher told me: “He’s going to throw you three fast balls. Nothing else.” He threw me two fastballs and I just swung..... I swung right through it..... And the third ball he threw, and I tell people this all the time, he threw the ball and as he let go he said: 'Go sit down.' This is while the ball was in the air. Yes, he struck me out with three pitches. He was just magnificent." 17 year old Willie Mays facing Satchel Paige for the first time.
