@BEEFMagazine highlighted a valuable protectionist theory with the extended border closure. This is not simply economics; this is principle. Markets can be rough, and people in ag expect to ride the roller coaster. But the extended closure shows that you too could wake up one morning to realize @USDA has shut you down without any consideration. Thank you, Nevil Speer, for a great article. @SecRollinsbeefmagazine.com/market-news…
Want to know what cattle are bringing at local sale barns across Texas? Each week, we update our Auction Data reports to provide a snapshot of current market prices for steers, heifers, cull cows, and bulls.

Earlier this week @ClintonReports and I had a fascinating "Unscripted" interview with Derrell Peel on the current cattle market. Not only did we cover New World Screwworm and the cattle flow story behind it, but also why the timeline to rebuild this cattle herd continues to be pushed back.
But he also pointed out the misconceptions many have about the cattle market in Mexico. He says:
- When Mexico couldn’t export roughly 1.1 to 1.2 million head of cattle a year, those animals didn’t disappear. they moved into Mexico’s feedlot and packing system.
- But that shift also changed long-running cattle flows across the region. For decades, cattle have moved north from Central America into southern Mexico, helping “backfill” the Mexican beef industry as domestic demand grew.
- Peel says those same cross-border cattle movements (and brining cattle up from Central America, some illegally) is part of how screwworm originally found its way back into Mexico.

Results for our trial near Muenster are now posted. All trials in the Texas Blacklands have now been been harvested. Statewide harvest is also nearing completion.
Trial results for Brady are now posted. There was a small bubble around this area that somehow managed to avoid being on the drought monitor all season, and the results show it. Quite a turn around for that area compared to the 2025 season.

🐂New World Screwworm has been detected in Mexico just 31 miles from the U.S. border despite extensive efforts to contain the parasitic fly.
The U.S. has banned Mexican cattle imports for over a year on fears the pest could spread to the U.S. herd - already at 75-year lows.
One of the more useful explanations I’ve heard of why Texas power approvals have slowed down.
ERCOT isn’t just reviewing projects once. They keep having to re-study the grid because new large load applications continue entering the queue while earlier projects are still moving through the process.
@JohnMcQueeneyTX breaks down how the batch study process is supposed to fix that.
#USMCA supports the families and businesses that power the South. From cotton to rice, open markets with Canada and Mexico are essential for Southern rural prosperity. #RenewUSMCA
The Asian longhorned tick (ALHT) is the culprit for carrying pathogens causing distress or disease to the host, with the latest being theileriosis in cattle.
Cattle in Nebraska were recently identified with theileriosis, caused by Theileria orientalis Ikeda, a blood-borne parasite that the ticks can transmit.

The US may lose beef export opportunities to China plus the economic benefits associated with feeding cattle from new world screwworm free states Chihuahua and Sonora. American rural communities 🇺🇸 reap indirect economic benefits from importing live cattle not boxed beef.

The #USMCA is more than a trade deal; it’s the lifeline of agricultural innovation. By streamlining how we move goods across North America, we're empowering producers to invest in the future.
The south plains of Texas is in severe drought, and it’s the middle of planting season. Desperately need rain to germinate seed. The last two days have had storms develop and move across. Each had more sand, wind than sprinkles. Just shows how dry the area is. It’s critical!
