The U.S. Supreme Court just sent Mississippi’s redistricting case back to the lower court for another look after its recent decision in Louisiana v. Callais. A lower court had already ruled that Mississippi’s maps unfairly weakened Black voting power. Mississippi appealed, arguing groups like the NAACP should not even be allowed to sue under the Voting Rights Act. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented and said the law already makes clear that private groups can bring these cases. The fight over voting rights and representation is far from over.
