Trump declares almost 50% of Americans to be public enemy number one – right after Iran. This is no longer politics; this is open civil war from the mouth of a president. Anyone who brands half of their own people – millions of ordinary Americans who simply vote differently – as the "greatest enemy" hasn't understood America; Trump hates it. This rhetoric isn't "tough," it's treacherous. It destroys precisely what makes America strong: the idea that Americans, despite all their differences, are one nation. Trump has just proven that he doesn't want to be president of all Americans – but merely the leader of a faction that considers the rest the enemy. Insane. And extremely dangerous.

The President of the United States just called two Supreme Court justices he personally appointed "an embarrassment to their families," "a disgrace to our nation," and "fools and lapdogs for the RINOs and the radical left Democrats." He alleged without evidence the Court was "swayed by foreign interests." He then signed a replacement tariff under a statute that has never been used in 51 years, was designed for a monetary system that collapsed in 1973, and expires in 150 days. When asked about returning $175 billion in duties the Supreme Court just declared illegal, his answer was: "It's not discussed." His Vice President called a 6-3 ruling joined by Gorsuch, Barrett, Roberts, Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson "lawlessness from the Court, plain and simple." He invited the three dissenters to the State of the Union. The six justices who ruled against him are "barely invited." He "couldn't care less if they come." No prior president has combined personal attacks on named justices with immediate policy circumvention at this scale. Jackson complied with Worcester. Roosevelt complied with every adverse ruling and never attacked individual justices. Nixon complied with United States v. Nixon and resigned. This president attacked his own appointees by name, questioned their patriotism, alleged foreign corruption, and signed a replacement order within four hours. The constitutional risk premium on executive trade promises just repriced in a way that does not show up on Bloomberg terminals. It shows up in the discount rate every foreign government now applies to every bilateral deal this administration negotiates. The clocks started yesterday. Six of them. open.substack.com/pub/shanak…

ICYMI: Two months ago, Rand Paul blew up Trump’s Venezuela pretext live on air. “There’s no fentanyl being made in Venezuela. None. Zero. These are outboard boats that would have to refuel 20 times to reach Miami. And we don’t just summarily execute people.” When Rand Paul is calling bullshit, the war narrative is collapsing in real time.
