I was proud to co-introduce this bill prohibiting cell phones and wireless devices during the school day because it will help us deepen learning for students and mitigate behavioral issues across schools. Several Ward 5 schools already prohibit cell phones during the school day, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive.
I look forward to engaging stakeholders as we look to scale these policies across the city.
Today, I introduced a new bill to prohibit cell phones and personal wireless devices during the school day in order to remove digital distractions in the classroom and increase educational outcomes for District students.
We must remain focused on supporting a learning environment in all of our schools that will help our students learn, play, engage, and thrive. Removing distracting devices during the school day will better equip our students to focus, empower our teachers to teach, and ensure that our kids are engaging with one another in person which will benefit them and their outcomes for years to come.
