Eight years ago, Jonathan Roumie was “out of food,” out of government assistance, and at the end of himself.
The actor, who now portrays Jesus in the global hit The Chosen, shared that he reached a moment where there was “nothing left to do” except fall to his knees and surrender everything to God.
“[I had to] get on my knees and surrender my entire life and my career and everything that I had up to that point over to God,” Roumie said. “Because there wasn’t anything, I realized, I could do on my own.”
That same day, he says he received “this incomprehensible financial miracle.” Just three months later, he booked the role that would change his life forever.
“Eight years ago today, God changed the course of my life,” Roumie wrote. “The road ahead seemed impassable and impossible, but He had other plans.”
Since then, millions around the world have watched Roumie bring Jesus to life on screen. Yet he says the greatest transformation has been spiritual.
“I will spend every waking moment I can trying to live for Christ,” he said. “In every opportunity He gives me, I seek only to point others back to Him.”
Quoting Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” — Roumie encouraged others to do what he did years ago.
“I invite you to surrender your own struggles to God and watch how He transforms them.”
As The Chosen films its seventh and final season, Roumie says he remains overwhelmed by gratitude for the journey God began when he had nothing left but prayer.
