I was an engaged Democratic voter when the Republican Tea Party was born in 2009, lit afire by the election of a Black president. I watched it spend years cultivating bigotry, attacking institutions, fomenting hate against minorities, and holding its own party hostage with extreme demands, all before birthing MAGA, destroying the GOP, and remaking the country in its image. So when I see the seeds of a "Democratic Tea Party" forming, I feel obligated to ask: have you lost your fucking mind? Reactionary movements follow a pattern. They start with legitimate grievances, get fueled by rage against a common enemy, and end up consuming everything, including the people who started them. The Republican Tea Party is proof. It didn't save conservatism. It devoured it. Now here's the part that's going to make some of you uncomfortable. The energy I'm seeing in parts of this movement, like the obsessive focus on Jews, Israel, Zionists, treated as interchangeable targets...has a historical echo that should stop everyone cold. The Nazi party defied easy left-right categorization. It drew from across the political spectrum. What unified it wasn't ideology. It was a shared enemy: primarily Jews. That fusion of nationalism and populist rage killed 6 million Jews and cost tens of millions more lives in Europe and beyond. I'm not calling anyone a Nazi. I'm saying the pattern, a political movement organizing itself around hatred of a specific group, is one of the most dangerous things in modern history. And I'm asking you to recognize it before it derails you, or worse, it defines you. Reactionary politics has gotten too many people killed already. Please rethink the energy and goals of your political project before it's too late to course-correct.

Donald Trump’s handpicked candidate Mike Collins is a notorious bigot, antisemite, and extremist currently under federal investigation for the illegal misuse of tax dollars. Collins, who is only a congressman because his daddy was a congressman, voted to double health insurance premiums for more than a million Georgians, for the Iran War, and for the Trump tariffs.

UPDATE—Police arrived at gas station and confirmed the dad was allowed to take his 2 girls into restroom. A man called 911 because he thought it was illegal—even with no family option available. "I'd love to hear you," he said. "What bathroom do you use to protect your kids?"
This father was on a road trip with his two young daughters & they needed to go to the restroom so he stopped at a QT & took them in the women’s restroom since no one was in it & a man came yelling at him to get out & called the cops. The girls were crying & then he assaulted him.

Major issues with Spagat et. al. (2026) survey of mortality in Gaza (Long 🧵) In February, Lancet published a study by Spagat et. al. (@Michael_Spagat ) supposedly showing that the death toll published by Gaza Ministry of Health (MoH) underestimated the true death toll from the war in Gaza by 35 %. A thorough examination reveals major problems with parts of the dataset, some of which are absolutely disqualifying. When the bad data is excluded from the analysis, the study’s estimated death toll is not significantly higher than MoH numbers, and the main finding of the study falls apart. Some issues have been raised by others, such as @MarkZlochin , but most issues presented in this thread are newly discovered. I have raised all these issues and more with Prof. Spagat via email but have not received satisfactory answers for the issues presented in this thread. I will refer to his response when relevant, and he is welcome to respond to this thread. Links to study, survey data and previous criticism will be posted in replies. Every claim in this thread can be checked and verified in the data. @GabrielEpsteinX , @Aizenberg55 1/15

Results of the strikes on Russia's military and economic potential: Blows to oil refining and revenues: ▪️ Over 30% of capacity lost: 16 major Russian oil refineries and terminals have already been struck. ▪️ More than 40 technological units have been shut down. Due to international sanctions, the enemy cannot restart them - import substitution is powerless here. ▪️ Production is falling: with nowhere to process the oil and exportation difficult, there’s no point in producing it. Oil production in Russia has fallen to an annual low (to 9.009 million barrels per day, according to OPEC). Fuel collapse in Russia and the occupied territories: ▪️ Gasoline production in Russia has dropped to a 16-year low. ▪️ Russia has banned the export of its own fuel, but this does not alleviate the shortage. ▪️ In occupied Crimea and the occupied part of Luhansk region, AI-95 gasoline is available only through coupons. ▪️ Gas stations in the Kursk, Belgorod, and Pskov regions have imposed a limit of up to 20 liters per vehicle. ▪️ Due to shortages of jet fuel, aircraft refueling has been restricted at Russia's largest airports. ▪️ The Russian government has officially authorized the production of lower-quality Euro-3 fuel because high-quality gasoline can no longer be produced using damaged equipment. I got sanctioned by the European Union! 😁 Kaka Kallas has nothing better to do than sign a sanctions list against bloggers, journalists, and even a priest. Europeans, ask yourself, what are they so afraid of? Sanctions mean I’m on the right track! I’ll always share the truth 🇷🇺

Who is Mohsen Madhawi, the anti-Israel activist Brad Lander rallied with over the weekend? • Praised Dalal Mughrabi, the terrorist who murdered 38 Israelis, including 13 children, in the 1978 Coastal Road Massacre. • Said that "stones and Molotovs weren't enough" to satisfy his desire for revenge against Israel. • Refused to condemn Hamas after the October 7 Massacre. • Boasted that his cousins are senior members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad. • Led "By Any Means Necessary" protests alongside Nerdeen Kiswani, head of Within Our Lifetime, an anti-Israel organization that has repeatedly called for Israel's destruction. • Declared that "there is nothing more honorable than dying for a noble cause." • Led the Fatah student group at Birzeit University, a campus long associated with radical student terrorist activity. • Was investigated by the FBI in 2015 in connection with allegations that he attempted to purchase a firearm while making anti-Jewish statements. This is who Lander stands with. This is who he will bring to Congress. Lander must be defeated.

Legitimately insane cope. No, Trump isn't thinking about the speed of wars of Israel's past (which also happens to be your personal bugbear, coincidentally enough), nor is he motivated by his support for Israel. He is an amoral transactionalist who thinks only in terms of his political fortunes and family's enrichment, as he has since before he descended the golden escalator. None of this is new. Witkoff, Kushner & Barrack get their bread buttered in Doha and Ankara, Vance is a multipolarist pseudo-groyper who believes selling Israel down the river is his ticket to the big prize, and Rubio has been sidelined because he can only communicate in the language of national interest and traditional alliances. It's really that simple.
A major issue for President Trump has always been to ask why these wars take so long. He likely recalls the 1967 war, which occurred when he was 21 and may be a formative memory; and asks this question because he wonders why these wars today seem to drag on without a clear strategy. He also has an interest in asking tough questions about damage to civilian infrastructure. And if he doesn’t get answers he will keep asking questions or pressure for the conflicts to end. It’s the same cycle he had with tiring of the Gaza war and getting a deal. He also doesn’t believe these long wars are in Israel’s interest, he supports Israel but knows that true support also means asking tough questions and pulling back from conflict, unquestioning support for any friend or ally isn’t really support. A good friend or partner makes sure to ask the tough questions when necessary and intervene when necessary to achieve good outcomes The question of why the wars on all fronts drags on and enemies remain, is being asked also in Israel in the lead-up to elections. Claims, just weeks ago, that Hezbollah will be “crushed” increasingly appear to ring hollow

Saikat spent $10 Million of his own money to get 18% of the vote in the race he just lost to replace Nancy Pelosi. Wild that a multimillionaire Jew-hating socialist can only get a fraction of the necessary vote to win in San Francisco. $238/vote received wasn't enough, Saikat.
I'm proud to back Connie Chan for Congress to represent San Francisco and plan to do everything I can to help her win. She is the only candidate in this race who takes no corporate money, who supports a wealth tax on billionaires, and who will vote to end all military aid to Israel - offensive and defensive. We must break the stranglehold of corporate money in Congress, and Connie will be a part of the movement to do exactly that.

You cannot invade and occupy another country because you disagree with their foreign policy and defense pacts. Without expecting it to cost you dearly.
Lavrov has once again stated that Russia is against Ukraine being dragged into NATO, but they have no objections to Ukraine joining the EU.
