I am thrilled to announce the release of my new book, 'The October 7 War: Israel’s Battle for Security in Gaza.'
While I've covered numerous Gaza wars, this one has been harrowing and long. Awakened by Hamas rocket fire on October 7, 2023, I began covering the conflict from its very first day.
New from @DukhanHaian: Insightful, dispassionate commentary about eastern Syrian provinces being treated like black sheep. @ArabCenterDC
I crossed the bridge in Deir ez Zor city, in early May. It’s gone now. The washed-out bridge is an opportunity for the central government to prioritize infrastructure projects that will directly improve people’s daily lives; pothole politics works.
Some of us said at the time, publicly in the media (I said it on @AJArabic) that Shebaa Farms was Syrian and that Hezbollah using it as a justification to attack Israel was complete bullshit.
Iran deal or no Iran deal, happy to see the Lebanese continue to break the fear barrier by communicating with Israeli nationals.
In this video, Lebanese channel MTV interviews Jerusalem Post’s and FDD’s Seth Frantzman.
#Iraqi PM Zaidi is set to travel to Washington next month, his first official visit to the US since forming a government in May.
He will discuss strengthening security and economic co-operation, the issue of placing weapons under state control, and investment in energy.
#EXCLUSIVE: Iraqi PM Ali Al Zaidi to visit Washington in July in first high-level US trip, a visit that Baghdad is portraying as a reset of bilateral ties and a push for economic investment. #Iraq#USthenationalnews.com/news/men…
Magzaberd, A medieval Armenian fortress overlooking the Akhurian River near the ancient capital of Ani. Built as part of Ani’s defensive network, its huge stone walls and towers have stood for centuries. Originally built by the Bagratunis of Ani.
Earlier this week, the @DeptofWar — in full collaboration with Venezuelan security forces — conducted a kinetic strike on a Tren de Aragua (TdA) compound in Venezuela. TdA founder & leader Hector Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, aka “Niño Guerrero,” was confirmed killed during the strike.
The operation underscores the shared U.S. and Venezuelan commitment to take the fight to narco-terrorists and deny them any safe haven in our hemisphere. We will continue to work closely with security partners, like Venezuela — and counties in the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition (A3C) partners — to take the fight to our enemies.
Just finished this excellent book by Aliza Marcus. Impressed by how she makes complex events and stories engaging and, more importantly, balanced and objective. Many details about Rojava’s early days were new to me. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the subject.
Out now: My new book on the PKK & how it survived Ocalan’s capture, won & lost armed control of the Kurdish regions of Turkey & Syria, & is now testing peace talks with Ankara. Based on firsthand interviews.

The U.S. government just unveiled the majestic Greco-Deco design for the new federal courthouse in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The building is at once monumental and welcoming, classical and original. The iris capitals are an inspired touch, drawing on Tennessee’s natural beauty and weaving it into the stone of a federal building.
The Chattanooga courthouse is precisely the kind of building that President Trump’s Executive Order on federal architecture—“Making Federal Buildings Beautiful Again”—was designed to produce.
When the courthouse is completed, it will stand as the living proof that the Order represents wise and humane public policy—something all Americans, regardless of political party, can and should support. Beautiful public buildings are not a partisan matter; they belong to everyone.
Editor's Notes: High Court ruling on women in tanks deepens religious divide in IDF
Women who made history in tanks on Oct. 7 fought in all-female crews. Both camps in the Armored Corps dispute should be claiming that morning as a victory. Instead, both pretend it never happened.
My column:
jpost.com/opinion/article-89…
On October 7, tank crews raced 35 km to Kibbutz Holit and fought for 17 straight hours, killing some 50 Hamas terrorists.
Every soldier in those tanks was a woman. All-female crews. The first in modern military history to fight in battle.
Remember that, because Israel is now tearing itself apart over women in tanks. The High Court ordered a pilot. 25 hesder yeshivas answered with a boycott.
Both sides forgot Holit. The women who made history did it in separate crews, exactly the framework religious soldiers are asking for.
One morning, two victories, and everyone walked away from it.
My Editor's Notes column will be published on Friday.
.@SecretaryWright praised Greece, Cyprus and Israel for transforming their energy future and deepening regional cooperation, arguing that the goal is not only to connect three countries, but to “stitch an entire region together through commerce, not conflict.”
