Chevy Chase played drums and keyboards in a college band called The Leather Canary, alongside future rock legends Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. While studying at Bard College in the late 1960s, this group of students performed jazz-rock fusion, which Chase later jokingly described as “a bad jazz band.” Chase eventually left the group to pursue a career in comedy and entertainment. Becker and Fagen later moved to Los Angeles, recruited new musicians, and achieved enormous commercial success under their new name, Steely Dan.
