Libertarian Intervention
I have many libertarian leanings, but when big "L" Libertarians argue the govt's first fiduciary responsibility isn't to its citizens, it's time for an intervention. Libertarians must accept:
1) The libertarian utopia is NEVER COMING. We will continue to live in a world of borders, nation states, laws, armies, and large institutions, and if we don't learn to manage them well, we will fail.
2) There has never been an example of shrinkage. Federal, state & local agencies never go away, they only grow. Each develops a cottage industry of dependents. It will take a shock to the system or better leaders. Be the latter, stop rooting for the former.
3) Self-reliance is a shitty sales pitch. Always has been. It will never beat promises of goodies. Those are the politicians that win. Always.
4) Libertarianism works best for healthy single guys in their 30's who live in the burbs, once read Ayn Rand, and make 6-figures (or have rich parents or successfully gambled on Bitcoin). Most others will need some sort of social services at one point or another. The goal should be to make those work better, not entertain delusions of their disappearance.
5) We live in a world of other nations. Some have nukes and hypersonic missiles. Unless you can convince them all to mutually convert and decentralize, we won't be the first to do it.
6) Libertarians will be first to make fun of commies that claim "real socialism has never been tried", but you know what else hasn't, LIBERTARIANISM. Maybe Afghanistan or Rwanda, but lawless anarchies will get order from the strongest warlord around. And I've seen you guys. It WILL NOT BE YOU.
