With warmer temperatures forecast for the end of the week hopefully you’ll appreciate a watery theme for this week’s challenge! Find wild or naturalised aquatic plants in bloom and share for #wildflowerhour this Sunday 8-9pm using the hashtag #AquaticPlants 💦🌱

Very little to report for #wildflowerhour this week but Hazel #catkins are opening now. I haven't found any of the beautiful female flowers yet though. 📷 14 Jan 2024 which is the earliest that I have recorded them. Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve (#NNR), #Cumbria

The factory farming of pigs and other sentient creatures is an abomination and a dark stain on all of humanity. These buildings are hell on Earth. Never, ever buy meat from an animal which was reared indoors. Alternative proteins cannot come fast enough.
The world's biggest single-building pig farm and slaughter house in Ezhou... about 80km from Wuhan. It's just asking for trouble isn't it.

The frosts seem to have finished off the last of the flowering Sea Mayweed at Arnside but it has left some nice patterns on the leaves. #WildflowerHour

Wilt-of-Melon fungus, Gibberella gordonii (orange bits), parasitic on Ergot, Claviceps spartinae (black bits) which is parasitic on Common Cord-grass, Spartina anglica. G. girdonii is much the scarcer, although both are under-recorded. Something different for #WildflowerHour

Another lesser spotted species for the #NewYearPlantHunt - Procumbent Pearlwort, Sagina procumbens. Just a single open flower. Humphrey Head, #Cumbria #Wildflowerhour

Spartina anglica, Common Cord-grass is another relatively rare find for the #NewYearPlantHunt. People have mixed feelings about this plant, to say the least, but you have to be impressed by it's tenacity. #Wildflowerhour on Humphrey Head #saltmarsh

The highlight of our #NewYearPlantHunt this year was this rather stunning Small Scabious, Scabiosa columbaria at Humphrey Head, #Çumbria. We managed 8 species in total here. #Wildflowerhour with @MaskellLindsay

Nitrates - fail Phosphate - fail Ammonia - fail Next up on @Feargal_Sharkey's river investigation tour - the Cam. Spoiler alert, this one is 'toxic' as well.

REVEALED: Just 2,500 farms own a QUARTER of the farmland in England Startling new stats I obtained from @DefraGovUK & shared with @DailyMirror show how unequal land ownership is in this country Large landowners must pay their fair share of tax 🧵1/ mirror.co.uk/news/politics/q…

I may still tweet (never post) on here, Twitter (never X) a bit. But I will probably mostly move over to where the skies are blue from now on, including for #wildflowerhour Almost the same handle on there for anyone else who's headed that way - Treebeard793
