Welcome to Day 3 of 'The mobile genome: genetic and physiological impacts of transposable elements' 🙌🏼 #EMBOMobileGenome While this morning's session is already underway, here's a few snaps from yesterday's 🔸last minute breakthrough talk 🔸 ➡️ 'Transposable element co-option drives transcription factor neofunctionalization' presented by Olga Rosspopoff (EPFL, Switzerland)

New preprint from the lab! More to come soon. Please follow us also on Bluesky: bsky.app/profile/trono-lab.b…

New preprint of my postdoc work! We found a novel group of zinc-finger proteins that rapidly evolved in a lineage-specific manner to repress regulatory activities of transposon-derived sequences through anchoring nucleosomes. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Next week on March 6th, we welcome @wayomayo as the latest guest in our Max Planck Seminar Series. Wayo is @EMBO Postdoc in the @Trono_Lab, @EPFL_en and we look forward to an interesting talk in which he opens up the (human) genome and its treasure trove of strange features: TEs

PREPRINT OUT! Cell cycle regulation is not limited to conserved TFs. Select young TFs (29-105myo) 1) regulate cell cycle genes and 2) set the #ReplicationTiming of gene clusters. Brainchild of @ForeyRomain and @PulverCyril. doi.org/10.1101/2024.11.04.6…

To sum up, evolutionarily recent TFs (ZNF519: primate-specific, ZNF274: therian-specific) partake in human cell cycle regulation. Are our genomes addicted to regulatory tinkering? Is this adaptation? Difficult yet fascinating open questions… Do reach out for comments!

Thrilled to share our findings on early aGVHD detection! Single-cell transcriptome analysis reveals atypical monocytes circulating before clinical onset. Huge thanks to Geneva Hospital’s onco-pediatric unit, CANSEARCH, and our lab. Proud of this teamwork! academic.oup.com/jleukbio/ar…

Didier @Trono_Lab preaching 🦀 ZFPs! I’m a convert! Our genome encodes ~400 KZFPs. Most bind to a single or a few TE subfamilies. A crucial layer of control over the ocean of cis-regulatory elements dispersed by TEs throughout the genome. #cshlTE24
