The Spielberg factor in Disclosure Day is quite interesting. Because it's him it makes you want to approach the film with more reverence, respect and patience and engage with its subtext. But if someone else had made this film, don't think we'd be giving it the time of day.

You’re totally right. If it wasn’t directed by Spielberg and his signature camera movement, story influence, score, scale, pace, and hand-picked actors and instead was an Amazon movie starring Chris Pratt, yes it would be just like Mercy
I honestly think if Disclosure Day didnt have Spielberg name attached it'd be getting similar reviews to this years Mercy. They aren't that different of films

It’s funny how Spielberg made The Fabelmans, so he could reckon with his childhood trauma. Than made Disclosure Day, which is partially about the need to build a movie set so you can relive your childhood trauma to become the most powerful version of yourself. Good to know 👍
