My statement on today's agreement between the United States and Iran.

I strongly welcome the announcement of an agreement between the US and Iran.  It is vital that toll-free freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is swiftly restored, so international shipping can get moving again to help the global economy and families here at home. The UK stands ready with France and other countries to support that process as needed. Our longstanding position is that Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon. The UK is ready to support the technical work to ensure that vital objective is implemented. This agreement is important for regional and global security and for the international economy. Thank you to all those involved in negotiations including Pakistan and Qatar. It is vital that progress continues - we stand ready to help make it a lasting peace.

Russia’s senseless attacks continue to escalate. Russia launched this illegal war and is inflicting immense suffering on the Ukrainian people. Russia bears full responsibility. Enough is enough. A ceasefire is long overdue.

وزيرة الخارجية، إيفيت كوبر: استئناف الحرب بين إيران وإسرائيل ليس في مصلحة أحد. يجب على كلا الجانبين إبداء ضبط النفس والتهدئة فورا. لا بد من استمرار المفاوضات للوصول إلى التسوية الدائمة التي نحتاج إليها جميعنا، لأجل إحلال السلام والاستقرار في المنطقة، ولأجل الاستئناف الكامل للتجارة العالمية.

The resumption of conflict between Iran and Israel is in no one’s interest. Both sides must show restraint and de-escalate immediately. Negotiations must continue towards the lasting settlement that we all need, for peace and stability in the region, and for the full restoration of global trade.

The UK commends Syria’s efforts, in partnership with the @OPCW, to accelerate the identification and ultimate destruction of Assad’s chemical weapons legacy. We must maintain this momentum and work towards the complete eradication of chemical weapons in Syria once and for all.

UK stands with all of those affected by ongoing flooding in Syria. We are providing urgent humanitarian support in Deir-ez-Zor, including health, nutrition, education, agriculture, and cash assistance, implemented by the Aid Fund for Syria, @UNICEFinSyria and @OCHA_Syria.

Good conversation with Foreign Minister @AsaadHShaibani during my last visit to Damascus as UK Syria Representative. We reflected on how far the bilateral relationship has come since December 2024.

Continued escalation in Lebanon is undermining diplomatic efforts and having an unacceptable impact on civilians. Israel's expansion of the conflict must stop. Hizballah must end attacks on Israel and disarm. All sides should uphold the ceasefire and continue US-led talks.
