I keep hearing a version of "But poor people need cars, we can't take away lanes from cars to put in a bus lane". This line of thought is missing two important things - one, people need cars because our built environment prioritizes and subsidizes car dependent infrastructure.

I remember discussing this in grad school. How Planners don’t consider the places Black people create as “good places” and therefore come to communities “placemaking” creating parks and murals that people in the community don’t desire.
