Tnx @charlesallen for meeting this AM with early childhood leaders to hear what’s at stake for DC child care. We’re grateful for your support for the Pay Equity Fund. Now Council must finish the job: add $2M before the 2nd vote to prevent early educator pay cuts!

Tnx @trayonwhite for meeting w/ Ms. Hall of Ward 8’s Big Mama’s Children’s Center. We appreciate your & @ChmnMendelson’s incredible work to largely restore the Pay Equity Fund. Just $2M more before the second vote can finish the job and prevent educator pay cuts!

“We have educators that are saying ‘I’m able to make my ends meet. I’m able to take care of a bill that I have been ignoring. My credit score has gone up because I can take care of my debt.’” LaDon Love told The Informer about the importance of Pay Equity investments. @SamPKCollins

We're grateful for @CMWendellFelder's support for Ward 7 educators and families and his advocacy to help stabilize the Pay Equity Fund. Thank you for standing with DC's early childhood community. Now the @councilofdc must follow his lead and add $2M to the PEF at 2nd vote.

1/8 🧵 @councilofDC just took its first vote on the FY27 budget, and thanks to relentless pressure from our advocates, partners, and families, nearly $100M for early childhood programs was restored. The fight isn't over, but this is MAJOR progress! Thank you to @ChmnMendelson & team for restoring the Pay Equity Fund after @MayorBowser's cuts. Here's what you need to know:

We also want to thank @BrianneKNadeau for highlighting that the Pay Equity Fund remains underfunded, and @CMLewisGeorgeW4 @CMWendellFelder for calling for a $2M PEF increase to stabilize our child care ecosystem during the first budget today!

Take a few minutes to read this rebuttal to the misguided WaPo editorial on a sound, progressive tax idea that would help solve structural budget issues that DC faces.
It’s pretty “rich” (pun intended) and not at all surprising that the Jeff Bezos owned, self-proclaimed free market advocates at the WaPo editorial board don’t like the Wealth Proceeds Tax. 1/

@charlesallen: “Simply saying the word growth over and over again is not the same as supporting it." Thx for speaking on economic growth w/moral clarity. We must reject the notion that growth alone will put DC on sound fiscal footing, esp if there’s no plan for inclusive growth.

Doing some final round of office cities before the DC Council votes on the FY27 budget. Still a little way to go to make child care whole, but I am so incredibly grateful to @ChmnMendelson for restoring a very significant amount of funding! ❤️

Long overdue that DC taxes its highly concentrated wealth with a 3% Wealth Proceeds Tax. No more "We don't have the resources to fund our safety net" "We can't help communities make ends meet in hard times" "Slash essential programs" Let your Councilmember know you support this
