EMBL Researchers & their collaborators discovered a process by which cells prevent the activation of ancient viral sequences in the genome. The study shows experimentally, for the first time, the causal role certain histone sites play in gene repression. embl.org/news/science-techno…

Kyung Min Noh, an EMBL Group Leader from South Korea, has been awarded a DKK 20 million grant by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Over the next seven years, Professor Noh will lead groundbreaking research at Aarhus University's Department of Biomedicine, focusing on chromatin mechanisms in neurodevelopment and disease. Neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric diseases like schizophrenia and major depressive disorder impact millions globally. Professor Noh’s research aims to uncover the chromatin mechanisms regulating neurodevelopment, potentially leading to innovative treatments and better patient outcomes. This grant is part of the Foundation’s Research Leader Programme, which recently awarded DKK 427 million to 41 researchers.
