#SGOAM2026 Highlight
@DGlaucomflecken as an invited speaker
He reflected upon his own cancer experience & cardiac arrest, and noted how this impacted his partner,
@LGlaucomflecken, who is a co-survivor.
Oftentimes in our specialty of
#oncology, we focus our conversations on the patient - their goals, treatment wishes, expectations. He reminded us that amongst all this essential dialogue, we should not overlook the person sitting just beside them - the wife, husband, partner, caregiver - the co-survivor.
Taking a moment to simply ask “how are you doing?” is more than a courtesy - it is an act of recognition. It acknowledges that
#cancer does not happen in isolation, but within a network of relationships that also deserve care, compassion, and support. By intentionally including co-survivors in our conversations, validating their experiences, and guiding them to resources when needed, we reinforce a more human-centered approach to cancer care.
@DGlaucomflecken also talked about his approach to humor in medicine. His popular skits have gained a lot of attention online and his satirical themes resonates with the healthcare audience, not just because they’re funny but because they offer a rare space to process the realities we often experience.
He even debuted a new skit just for
@SGO_org! Have you ever heard of the
#LACCTrial? It is a landmark trial within the field of
#GynOncology that changed our surgical approach to early-stage
#cervicalcancer. It showed
#minimallyinvasive #radicalhysterectomy for early-stage cervical cancer was associated with a worse disease-free survival & overall survival, compared to open surgery, thus shifting the standard of care toward open approaches. His approach to this topic has everyone laughing!
What are your thoughts on his latest skit?
