Our ED Joanita Nakiwala represented VLHO at the ECOFood Project Uganda Disability Mainstreaming Workshop (May 11-14, Gulu). One question shaped the four days: Is your organization truly inclusive? We're examining our own answer. #DisabilityInclusion #VoiceLifeHealth

Our work in mental health, substance use prevention, and community wellbeing cannot be complete without centering disability. Our communities include persons with disabilities. Their voices must be centered. Their needs must shape our programs. #InclusiveProgramming

Gratitude to Christian Blind Mission, EAEA, @NUDIPU, and all facilitators for this transformative learning. This is how partnerships for SDGs actually work; learning, accountability, and collective commitment to leaving no one behind. #Partnership4SDGs #DisabilityJustice

Impairment Barriers = Disability Disability isn't an individual deficit. It's structural. When we remove barriers, we remove disability. At VLHO, this changes how we design our substance use and mental health programs. #Accessibility

@Makerere University School of Public Health was this week delighted to host Dr. Isabelle Uny, Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Associate Dean for Internationalisation (Research) at the Institute for Social Marketing and Health, Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport, University of Stirling (UK). During her visit, Dr. Uny delivered a stimulating public lecture titled β€œIntroduction to Policy Analysis and Writing Policy Briefs”, chaired by Prof. @NazMTumwesigye, an Alcohol Epidemiology and Medical Statistics Subject Matter Expert at Makerere University. Together with the Dean, Prof. @RhodaWanyenze, Dr. Uny and Prof. Tumwesigye explored opportunities for strengthening partnerships between the two institutions. At present, Prof. Tumwesigye and Dr. Uny are leading research initiatives on the politics of evidence use in alcohol policy in Africa, an area where both institutions are steadily building strong expertise. This visit underscored a shared commitment to expand this collaboration into a deeper, long-term research partnership aimed at delivering greater impact for policy and practice in Uganda and across the region.
