ever since @barra_lena's work on PLP-mediated catalysis in the biosynthesis of altemicidin, I've been fascinated by PLP. very cool to see this enzymatic pathway intercepted by photoredox-generated radicals!

We published our first paper on pyridoxal radical biocatalysis in @ScienceMagazine : lnkd.in/gkB5dpKM. What we are most excited about is the ability to design general biocatalytic activation modes which are both new-to-biology and new-to-chemistry:

We reconstitute active artificial hydrogenases using apo-protein of [Fe]-hydrogenase and synthetic Mn complexes. The most active variants appear to operate via a reaction pathway deviated from the native pathway. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/… @EPFL_CHEM_Tweet @angew_chem

Looking forward to future collaborations with you!
Hi! We just started our new lab at the VUB-VIB center of structural biology, in Brussels. We develop computational design and high-throughput experimental screening methods to understand how membrane proteins fold and engineer proteins with new functions.
